So all my friends at school are watching dragon ball super. And I was like oh OK I'll watch it and catch up. (I never watched it as a kid like they all did) So I took a look and realized before I could even start watching dragon ball super, I had to go through the original dragon ball and dragon ball z. So now I'm thinking, is it worth skipping the original dragon ball and going straight to dragon ball z to catch up that much sooner? Thanks for any suggestions!

Do NOT skip the original, it's by far the most fun to watch! Here's what you can do if you want to speed through things:
1) Watch original
2) Watch DB Kai (Episodes 1-99), NOT DBZ (Kai has no fillers, saving you the trouble of ~100 filler episodes and is faster paced)
3) Watch DBZ from episode 195 and on up to 291 (final episode)
4) Skip DB GT and go straight to DBS

Wow thanks for the stream lining. Is dragon ball z really that much filler though?

DBZ has around 119 filler episodes if I remember correctly and the non-filler events are progressing slower, taking more episode time than they should. They aren't worth it, with season 4 being completely filler and the rest of the fillers being cameos and stuff with nothing really happening besides introducing a few characters (only 2 of which appear in one scene that isn't filler at around episode 300), really not worth it. You can skip some episodes of the original too, but mainly 150-153 (fillers to end the show in a fun vibe) and the last two episodes of DBZ Kai. Also, when watching Kai, during the Goku vs. Frieza fight, skip some episodes there (it's a meme, it's supposed to be 5 mins and drags on for 15 episodes)!

Also. You should watch the Battle of Gods and Return of F movies after Dragon Ball Z but before Super. As they are not filler.

It has quite a bit. Some parts of Dragon Ball are just comedy. Like 90% of Dragon Ball Super is filler/padding and can be skipped.
DBS has absolutely NO filler episodes, but they are padded out greatly. Filler is non-manga material, but the DBS anime isn't based on the manga, the manga is based on the anime instead.

OK this guy doesn't know what he's talking about.

1. Watch the original Dragon Ball. It has some wacky and some awesome moments.
2. Watch Z, all the way through. It does have some filler but also some awesome brilliant moments.
3. Skip Kai. It might be abridged etc but it is also pretty poor in the diologue. It takes away all the little funny moments and puts in unneccecery swearing into places that maks me cringe when I hear them.
4. Despite what some people say don't skip GT. Watch it for yourself and see how "bad" it is. I still put most of it above Dragon Ball Super.
5. Skip the first 27 episodes of Super and watch the BoG and RF movies as they are a lot better and well more animated.

I'm speaking through a fan's lens. You're telling me Yamcha playing baseball isn't filler?

That's just cringey padding, it's not filler technically though, as they went and included it in the manga even:P

I suggested watching Kai over Z because it's more accurate and similar to the manga. Unless you are watching it dubbed, the dialogue is also almost the same as the manga. I only suggested skipping GT because it's not actually a part of the story, so he can just watch it later, it has some pretty cool moments, despite the whole Goku being a kid thing... And ok, the movies are better than the start of DBS for the most part, so if he wants to speed through for real, then ok, go with movies.

Or Vegeta wearing the maid outfit............
Wait, which episode is that? I vaguely remember it, can't remember which one it was:rofl:

Just streamlining the time it takes for them to catch up to their friends a bit more. It'd be crazy for them to watch Battle of Gods and then watch like the first ten or more episodes of Super. It'd allow them to catch up faster without losing any content. Only the most important arcs matter in Super and there's really only three.

I'd have to argue that the manga isn't quite based on the anime, rather Toriyama gives both toei and Toyotarou the gist of what he wants and then they both take their own spin on it. Personally I think the manga's approach at certain points is more interesting, and is worth a read even if you already follow the anime.

The point of kai is too skip all the crap and nonsense episodes that dont add anything to the plot other then subpar comedy.

Yeah, although I quite enjoyed the filler as I watched as a kid, not much will really be missed if they're omitted.

Doesn't Kai have different voice overs? That fucks me up.
IIRC a few voice actors were changed, at least for the dub. The only voice change I can really remember though is Kid Gohan's voice being different.

You're telling me that recycling his death pose wasn't 100% worth that whole filler episode and all the future ones? :P
It was pretty good, but nothing a youtube clip can't solve or the OP could always go back and watch it. They just want to catch up.

It has all the same English Funi VA's except for Bulma, Gohan and Oolong.

Kai is better than Z because if some one wants to catch up, they don't want to see 119 filler episodes. Kai is accurate to the manga and it shows the intended image it was supposed to portray. GT is just glorified fanfiction tbh. Super feels a lot more like a proper sequel.

Why not watch The Kai Buu Arc?

Speaking of PLaystation. I see Evilnat put out a beta for PS3 CFW 4.91.2 on the 22nd.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Don't really see the point in updating it tbh
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea you right, I thought about updating my PS3 CFW to 4.91, but why really, everything plays fine now. I guess for people that have already updated past 4.9 it would be helpful.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Idk if online servers are still active that would be my only thought
    +1
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Thats true, personally I don't play it online at all, in fact, I deleted all wifi details on it once I installed CFW, so it won't connect and auto-update itself
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I play most games that are on both PS3/360 strickly on the 360, but PS3 exclusives are really only games I play on the PS3 (You know me, I'm more of a Xbox junkie)
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Ps3 really has no titles worth going online
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
    what is nps?
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@K3Nv2, what about GTA v onl... O Yea the PS3 versión got discontinued

@BigOnYa I had 4.89 hfw on super slim that was great, but when I got a new hard disk I forgot where the guide was and could only find a guide for 4.90 and its resources
  • S @ salazarcosplay:
@BigOnYa I think another reason to want to update is if the hfw is at the level of the fw
  • S @ salazarcosplay:
    you can sync trophies
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea that's what I sitting on now- 4.9, and it seems fine, have had no issues at all
