Hacking Why is every major dev of the Switch scene pissed about Xecuter's work?

Well, for all the people going 'CUZ PIRIZY!!!!,' if you get CFW, you get piracy. It's inevitable. And often, piracy is what can drive scenes. If nobody wanted free games, there wouldn't be people furiously looking for exploits. Most good homebrew is a side effect of piracy-driven mass exploitation and experimentation. In this light, piracy (or at least people wanting to pirate) may even be a good thing. Plus, if you release something cool but it doesn't let ou pirate, people are going to figure it out on their own. As a homebrew developer, you can't stop piracy. But you can benefit from people trying to get it.

I personally couldn't give a shit about piracy, I just care more about emulators and other forms of homebrew, so me being on 4.1.0 is fortuitous for me.

Edit: Inb4 "but emulators are piracy too!" True, but the difference is many of those games are not available via digital services and/or there are companies who don't own the rights, went under, etc. I figured with old games, it doesn't feel nearly as demoralizing as pirating new games.

Besides scalpers on eBay, very few gain revenue.

I want Quake like we had on the Wii with motion controls. That was fun.
With HD rumble, or at the very least the better motion controls, that'll be pretty cool.

Yeah, I play a ton of GC games with Nintedont on my Wii U. If it's a Wii, it's piracy, if it's a Wii U its ""emulation"" (sort of).

If you really can't live without homebrew or make homebrew, I guess your better off buying something like GPD Win 2, it's expensive but you can run anything you want in it...

I my self want is the triple A games patched since I have no money, Switch + TX would be perfect 4 me.

hardware will always have an upper hand on never devices since the security they employ make it hard to softmod, gone are the days of simple buffer overflow savegame exploits.

look at the Xbox 360, It will always be tethered to extra hardware. I like that Xecuter is working on a hardware solution since that helps to eliminate a lot of hassles that softmods have since softmods will always be dependent on the software being exploited.
360 isn't tethered to extra hardware. Modify gpd on profile of a game where the gpd isn't encrypted(which is a large portion) and you can use that to gain xam access.

Wew what a thread. I'll just say if TX gets the ball rolling, then it's fine with sith me. Software exploit cold boot will come in time, hardware is just earlier.

About devs bring upset, I can kind of get it. However, if you are in this for fame and epeen, you may want to reevaluate yourself. Internet fame is nothing special. The community has a right to be angry at times. There have been plenty of instances where devs baited people but never delivered or said a firmware was safe when it wasn't.

Piracy is piracy. You can't stop it, so don't even try. It's not your job to do piracy protection for Nintendo. Reminds me of the guy doing The Great Ace Attorney translation trying to do anti piracy measures in his translation patch. If Capcom actually cared about making money from that game in the west they would of released it there.

The internet can be both a wonderful and horrendous place. Letting shit people say to you online get under your skin only hurts you. I just ignore most people on here without an avatar photo, as it more than likely a troll account. Need to have a bit of thick skin here.

Gateway was basically a DRM cart, TX deals in modchips. I don't see the purpose really of having a hardware exploit only to use it as DRM for software
well in fairness it later became a DRM cart at 1st it actually loaded roms from the cart
some thing we are still not able to do to this day or that nobody has bothered with because of CIA's

I find it pretty ironic that these homebrew devs lash out against Team Xecuter for providing a CFW solution, meanwhile @SciresM said he was is going to do the same thing (also develop a CFW).

What's the difference? That one will be free makes it morally OK while a paid solution is the devil?

If you look at this from a piracy standpoint, the free softmod will reach a bigger userbase than a hardmod, and thus the softmod would make piracy more rampant than the TX hardmod.

Talk about hypocrisy...

How? There are more people on more recent firmware than 3.x.x users, no? People won't want to be on 3.x.x forever, and the free CFW will be only on older firmware.

Personally I don't see any reason to angry just yet, while true this does allow piracy (or could) keep in mind this is a hard mod. Hard mods are the bane of end user. So will mean only a small amount of people will get their hand on it. Making the piracy concern not very concerning. And with the TX having a hardmod exploit is actually helpful to all of us. When it reaches a certain point, in theory people (exploiters) could use the hard mod to look at nintendo's software, allowing us to have homebrew/cfw faster. However I must stress if they do find something at kernal level. I don't want to see it for another 1-3 years. The switch is simply too young right now.

Profiting from piracy is the lowest thing to do?

Ads on your downloads is shitty but need to host somehow - if this is hardware - okay, fair. If it's software, or like some DRM shit :(

Hard mods are great, having to do a bit of work to enable piracy and other goodies on your console is a lot more rewarding that just putting in an sd card and hitting a button. Also by installing a hard mod yourself you are more likely to be able to fix it if anything goes wrong later on. Its a learning process sure but its part of the fun of modding, softmods are useful for the masses but that hardmod you installed yourself has just that little bit more wow factor to your mates :)

If Xecuter go the same route as they did with the OG Xbox then fun times are ahead for people who are not afraid of a soldering iron.

Also a great way of killing your system. Hard mods aren't noob friendly, and that's a good thing. And the 3ds wii, would like to speak with you in regards of recovering from bricks
