Someone gave my father his wii and it shows a complete black screen on startup. I am 99.99% sure he has not modded or added any unofficial software cuz he only has original dvds.
I think its some kind of hardware issue (BT module?) or maybe and just maybe a brick.
Any solution for either and steps to do something for fixing.

Thanks geniuses for your suggestions will try them!

i dont have access to gc pad hence savemiifrii wont be possible. Thanks for the suggestion. It will be opened tomo and will see the problem/solution and come back here.
I opened it and it seems tht either the Motherboard or the BT chip is busted cuz the wiimotes arent detected.

Solution
Here are possible solutions:

1. If it still has warranty, send it to the store you bought it from.
2. Repair it in a store.
3. Remove SD cards inserted in your Wii. That may be the cause of the black screen.
4. Your Wii is dirty inside. Send it to Nintendo for free cleaning but it may take up to 2 weeks before they return it to you.
5. Buy your own do-it-yourself cleaning kits or DVDs. It may not solve the problem but it can't hurt to try right?
6. Your Wii is bricked. There may be a few solutions.
7. Your Wii's motherboard is broken/stuck. Buy a new replacement. I know there are some people who sell motherborards for wii.
8. Check the manual if you have done something bad.

Hope this helps.

you could check to see if modded by pushing an holding the rest button, after powering on. this will show priiloader, that is if it's been modded an was added to the wii. if not. then possible a bricked wii. if it is on there, you will be able to see whats going on. an fix using modmii. but thats only if it's modded with priiloader. if bricked you'll need infectus an a good nand dump. from a good wii. good luck. :(

An SDHC card with Bootmii on it can cause a black screen too.
Thats if it has 1 inserted that is.
"YES" it can cause a black screen "Transcend SDHC class 6 4gb" does it quit successfully i gaurantee you, so dont dissmiss something you dont know.
4.1 also supports SDHC

Look up savemiifrii. It uses a GC pad and will tell you if it has a functioning system menu, and if so what version. From there we can see if we can get things running again. With ref to SDHC, thats wrong as I have an 8gb SDHC with Bootmii and it works fine
