[Looking for help] Cloud Storage / NAS issues

Considering your travelling needs, another option is a travel router (https://www.gl-inet.com/products/gl-mt1300/) and using direct attached storage (e.g a portable SSD). It would be quicker than cloud storage, and it is possible to set it to replicate to cloud storage (I don’t know the steps...

What are the Causes of Blue Screen Errors? How To Resolve this Error?

An alternative debugger is BlueScreenView. Drag the minidump into the app and it’ll highlight in red the causes of the crash. Ntoskrnl.exe will always be flagged, as that’s the blue screen itself, but if any other drivers are flagged, google what that driver is and uninstall/reinstall it. If no...

    Upgrading SSD, Question about Cloning?

For cloning, I’ve used AOMEI (free at the time) and Acronis, both worked well. Although my personal preference is actually just to start with a fresh install. You can reinstall apps that you need, copy over important data, and the rest can sit in archive, either on your old drive (I’ve got a USB...

[Looking for help] Cloud Storage / NAS issues

Microsoft 365 for Family plan is normally £80 per year for up to 6 accounts, and each get 1TB of OneDrive. It’s also on sale like every other month for £35-45 depending where you look. For me, it makes perfect sense (and gets more use than my Netflix subscription). I get it for office, and...

[Looking for help] Cloud Storage / NAS issues

I personally use OneDrive 1TB and just keep renewing my family sub once a year when on sale. Since I regularly use Office 365, it’s just part of the package. I do have a Synology NAS but since it didn’t work the way I was hoping, it’s been relegated to TimeMachine backups and shadow copying my...

Editorial Your most disappointing video game sequel

I think it would be fair to count Dungeon Keeper Mobile and Diablo Immortal as the most disappointing sequels.

Hardware My USB drive is not fine at all

Sounds to me like the controller in the drive failing. The two most likely ways for a USB flash drive to die are the NAND hitting the write limits (effectively becoming read only) or the controller failing.

Hardware SSDs or HDDs - Which is better?

There’s a few things that haven’t been mentioned yet in this thread. SSDs are only faster whilst it still has SLC cache space left. After the cache is filled, it drops to the slower MLC/TLC/QLC speeds, and some cheaper SSDs don’t have any cache. Also if the drive runs out of space for TRIM to...

Gaming Best Pc Games for Intel Core i5

4th gen mobile CPU and Intel HD graphics. It can play casual games, but will struggle with any 3D games and will probably have weird artifacts (I saw this when running Borderlands on it many years ago).

Gaming 1st time building my own pc

My two cents, building an ATX/tower desktop is relatively easy. Building a mini-ITX desktop saves a lot of space, but can get very tricky in terms of fitting and compatibility (and thermals but anyway...). If the idea of building a PC from parts sounds daunting, then buying a pre-built system...

Gaming Hacking with a normal USB Drive?

Even if you’ve got a password on your BIOS, there are still ways to get around that. I had a fun case a couple months back where I cleared the BIOS password by shorting two contact points inside the laptop. Got in a minute later.

Gaming Part shortage due to coronavirus?

There’s a buffer at every level of the supply chain, so the impact to the factories won’t cause a sudden shortage in supplies, however the way the market panics at these things, memory and storage prices is starting to spike. If you’re planning to upgrade soon, it’s better to do it today than...

Hardware MSI GE63 Raider RGB 8RE Storage Options

Definitely got them the right way round. It’s a bit weird MSI cheaped out by not putting the last connector in... Since you got it to initialise, it’s working now, right?

Hardware MSI GE63 Raider RGB 8RE Storage Options

A pic showing the actual drives plugged in would help work out what you’re doing. I’m assuming you’ve got the Samsung SATA M.2 drive on the right, Crucial MX500 on the left and Crucial P1 NVMe on the right? Which one isn’t showing in Windows? Have you tried opening cmd and running Diskpart...

Hardware Will this work for HDMI capture?

It will work, however quality will depend on your computer specs. Audio should work through HDMI/USB, although note that you might suffer a delay using that capture device unless you are using a HDMI splitter. I personally use an Elgato/Corsair HD60, or the S(lim) version, but mostly anything...

    Hardware SD readers becoming rarer?

It's an interesting question. I still see them in some of the larger department stores, electronics stores, and the usual Curry's/PCWorld (always relegated to some shelf in a distant corner), but it is true that it's harder to find them in average supermarkets and stores anymore. The best...

alienware m15x odd sound when updating bios driver from support assistant

Something that can happen is when a fan spins up to 100% (as will happen when a BIOS update takes place), the fan can wobble a bit and either scrape against the enclosure or the vibration itself can cause a noise. Either way, it's always a bad idea to turn it off during an update.

I'm sure if this ever becomes commercially available, Dell Alienware will get a bunch frivolous lawsuits from the same trolls that claimed Nintendo copied their patents for removable controllers on the Switch.

    Hardware Laptop is running slow

I said this in the other thread but it's worth mentioning twice. RAM is fairly cheap now with 4GB for £15-20 and 8GB for £30-35. Just make sure that the replacement RAM you get matches the specs of the one you already have (e.g. DDR3/3L/4, speed, and voltage). Brand doesn't matter, only that...

    Hardware Laptop doesn't turn on

Having chips on only one side is optional. This is often done by MFRs to save costs on production. As the others have said, 3 long and 2 short is HP's beep code for RAM fault detected. Since you said you've tried both RAM sticks in both slots (assuming you've been sensible in trying all 4...
