it is an option... but even in 2024, N64 emulation isn't perfect and this is definitely for people that want something that's as close as possible to original hardware that lets you use your old carts and accessories but with all the modern "quality-of-life" conveniences.
Which has been...
i think it's ideal if you want an N64 that already has hdmi without needing to solder anything
... and you also just HAAAAAAATE the original controller
I think it's more disingenuous to say that game companies are doing an adequate job at persevering their games. 80% of all games ever released aren't commercially available anymore. There are titles that have never been re-released or have had bad remasters/ports cause they lost the source code...
there's always gonna be a market for more other forms of gaming, just because VR is a niche doesn't mean it shouldn't exist just cause you personally don't find it appealing
i genuinely wonder what kind of hardware they'll be using to replicate the n64 since i can only imagine it would have to be more powerful then a standard MiSTER board
now i'm REALLY curious what kind of hardware they'll be using to replicate the n64 since i can only imagine it would have to be...
i think it's REALLY odd and also stupid that people here are cheering for Epic having layoffs when the people in-charge of giving Epic it's shitty reputation are still working there and are probably the ones that made the decision to fire people that likely didn't have a say in how the company...
not sure how on earth they intend to bring E3 back without support of any of the big 3, and if it's gonna be a smaller event focused on smaller publishers then sadly that market has already been filled by conventions like PAX, GDC, Magfest, Toyko Game Show, Gamescom, etc. etc.
yeeeeeeah... i think that's why i haven't gotten into 360 modding is that it's still not as user-friendly as the PS3 scene which was a lot more fortunate to have more hacking breakthroughs throughout it's lifespan
what sucks is that the 360 hacking scene has been incredibly stagnant last i heard, and the only way to play back-ups is if you're lucky to have a Jasper unit that can still be Jtagged since future xbox systems (while offering backward compatibility of older purchased titles) are nearly...
oh yeah, was mostly referring to x86 handhelds that run windows
the ARM-based ones look neat and it would be nice if there was a translation layer that allowed it to play x86 Steam games but that's WAAAAAY easier said then done
There's rumors that microsoft is working on a modified version of Windows optimized for handheld gaming devices, but from what i heard it just sounds like an alternative UI skin on top of a bloated OS
Valve's reason for not officially licensing SteamOS on other handhelds is mostly due to the fact that they feel like it's still in beta and needs more fine-tuning before they can license it out to a wider market
apparently i heard Sega snubbed Whitehead to work with them which i find baffling, but i guess Sega values devs that can churn out mediocrity on a deadline then those that can actually make a good game
i'd imagine it's quite necessary for the VR since those pixels will be divided per eye (2000x2000 each) and a 1080p screen would look quiet low-rez and blocky when placed up-close to your face
it's too bad google dropped support of cardboard/daydream, and using your phone as a pc vr headset isn't exactly the best experience (in fact, it's quiet bad)
at least the Pimax Portal should have better pc intigration on the level of the Quest 2
the one thing i'm bummed out about is there's no expandable storage and it looks like you gotta pay quiet a bit extra for a model with the QLED screen and the VR accessories, otherwise i'd sell my Quest 2 in a heartbeat
