Emulation Emulator What are best PS1 emulators for switch?

I very much think duckstation is for most users the best PS1 emulator on Switch and otherwise. It does very good on pretty much all fronts (accuracy, performance, enhancements). You've come just to the right time. I've finally got to update duckstation to the latest version. Besides some minor...

Homebrew RELEASE melonDS for Switch — continuation

I haven't played much Switch in recent times, so my interest in Switch homebrew also fell, expect an update, some day. Still for Horizon, I'd say it's probably the best way to play DS games. it will be added eventually

Homebrew RELEASE melonDS for Switch — continuation

it runs on latest Atmosphere and latest firmware the same as it did before, fullspeed in a lot of games (assuming you enable the JIT recompiler). This isn't a sysmodule, there is not that much to worry about. There have been some occasional breakages between fw versions, but that's really limited.

Homebrew RELEASE melonDS for Switch — continuation

Ah yeah, Golden Sun is unfortunately a very tricky game, try anything else, it'll run much better. Also really enable the JIT recompiler, it can make a huge difference (I really need to just change the default back to it being enabled).

Homebrew RELEASE melonDS for Switch — continuation

I haven't tried latest firmware, because I haven't updated my Switch yet, but it works on the one before it. Game? Also have you enabled the JIT recompiler?

Homebrew RELEASE melonDS for Switch — continuation

right, I need to read messages more yes, but it's not exposed in this port, so effectively no. It runs the majority of games fullspeed without overclocking.

Homebrew RELEASE melonDS for Switch — continuation

you can keep your money, it's already implemented. You need to press ZL while not using motion controls (there it's mapped to recalibration). Note that the speed up is limited by how fast the Switch is, so it won't be that high. If you haven't already, enable the JIT recompiler.

Who said Switch GameCube Emulation was impossible..

which games have you tried? remappable bindings are planned.

Who said Switch GameCube Emulation was impossible..

just because there's no constant stream of updates for a software it doesn't mean it's automatically outdated. That said I'm planning an update for quite some time. no, well you could adapt it's JIT recompiler, but that would still be a lot of work and code quality would be kind of bad.

Who said Switch GameCube Emulation was impossible..

it is not outdated and it runs the majority of DS games fullspeed, I've made this thing. technically yes, but it's difficult both in terms of skill required and just sheer amount of work.

Who said Switch GameCube Emulation was impossible..

the code of the game is prepared (recompiled) in advance with a tool which we don't have. To inject another game you would also need to recompile it's code with this tool and inject this as well, additionally to the disk image.

Who said Switch GameCube Emulation was impossible..

The entire code of Mario Sunshine and Galaxy and All Stars is recompiled ahead of time (AOT). The iso is there yes, but it's only for assets. You could replace them to replace textures or sounds, but to modify the code (or run any other game) you'd need NERD's recompilation tool.

Who said Switch GameCube Emulation was impossible..

So yeah I've written a Gamecube emulator or atleast the beginning of one. There's no aarch64 JIT yet and the interpreter doesn't have idle loop skipping, that's why performance is this bad (not saying it would be perfect with it, but it wouldn't need 7 hours even on Switch with them). use...

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

It's old but it's the best firmware out for DS stuff
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:

  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    nvm it does support mine

Just give it a try, but honestly if you have a 3DS you can play DS games without a card just off the internal SD card
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Slightly slower loading but a bit more convenient
