Hardware Fix for open tray error?

360 won't connect to the internet/sign into xbox live no matter what

I've tried connecting via wi-fi and ethernet both at my own place and at someone else's. I've reset the router at both places and it won't sign in no matter what. I've also tried formatting the HDD.. I need to get online to just download an...

Ive only seen bypasses to this but not fixes. Is there a way to just fix it. None of the recommended tips have worked.
