Hi all,

I was wondering if it was at all possible to access the Nintendo Switch news channel or the Nintendo Switch eShop on a pc.
Reason I am asking is because I am building a Nintendo based community and the normal Nintendo Feeds are not as up to date with the actual news development on the Switch itself for both the news in general and the actual release dates and info.

PS: I am making it bilingual, please see;
(Dutch); https://www.nintendoreporters.com/
(English); https://www.nintendoreporters.com/en

If anybody can help in any way that would be greatly appreciated!

I've been told the news channel servers start with "bcat". In Fiddler I can see the Switch accesses the following servers:
bcat-topics-lp1.cdn.nintendo.net
bcat-list-lp1.cdn.nintendo.net
bcat-data-lp1.cdn.nintendo.net
When I open the eShop, it accesses
bugyo.hac.lp1.eshop.nintendo.net
You can write a bot that accesses these servers, but I doubt you're gonna have much success. The servers will most likely deny all your requests if you don't have a client certificate. And I don't know if Switch client certificates can currently be dumped.

Welp, you can access the e-shop in the web browser (and also download and buy your games from it). I don't if you knew this nor if this can help

To all thanks for the replies!
Ah very nice information JoFelix.

So in general it's really a device specific service... cool.
More research gonna go into this.

Don't know about the news channel, but you can access the eshop just fine with mozilla firefox, as long as you have the ShopN cert (dumped from a switch) and a valid Nintendo Account.

I knew the eshop looked like a crappy website! This proves it!

Though I am not sure where you managed to find this ShopN cert thing. Google isnt helping. Nice though.

Installing the certificate and going to the eShop adress didn't work. Got an Access Denied error...

Edit: Forgot the https part. It loaded now, but shows nothing

For some reason I have an unvalid certificate? I did everything properly, so no clue why I'm getting an error...
Anyway, yes, I'm logged in to my Nintendo account, and I'm using that adress.

Alright, so using Edge worked. Still have the certificate error, but it works... Weird :P

When installing the cert it asks for a password but I dont know what it is.
On the github it says switch is the password but it doesnt work either.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
