PS1/2 Is there a way to use a PS4 or PS3 controller with the PS2?

Hey peeps,

I have a phat PS2 that I've had running HDAdvance with a HDD since I was a kid (meaning someone else did the mod). I've been using the same wired controllers the PS2 came with since then, and at this point they've gotten pretty messed up and unmanageable. I'm planning on upgrading the console to either a PS3 or PS4 later on in the year, so am thinking of buying a Dual Shock 3 or Dual Shock 4 controller now that I can then use for both that and my current PS2. However, this would require some way of using DS3/DS4 controllers on a PS2. The best I've been able to find on this front so far is this thread:

But reading into that thread further it sounds like that method requires each game/executable that uses it to be compiled with it rather than working out of the box... besides, I'm not even sure such a method would be compatible with HDLoader.

Does anyone know whether this is currently possible at all?

I was afraid of that. I actually have HDAdvance instead of HDL, which I'm guessing is the same situation seeing as it's a clone of HDL.

Was the ability to use PS3 controllers introduced in the last OPL betas, or are there previous releases that include it? And am I right in thinking that, if I did install it to my PS2, I would be able to use a PS3 controller for OPL itself and its menus but none of the applications that it loads (aside from the other two you mentioned)?

Only in the last betas - stable 0.9.3 doesnt have it. It was introduced in rev990 - OPL is currently in rev1031. Lately, DS4 et multitap support was added. But well, according to the tests I did, it's quite stable.
