HI all,

Just wondering once I hack my wii u with coldboot haxchi, I was wondering after I do this, can I still use the youtube/netflix channel? Do I need to download anything different or can I use the channels I have right now (pre hack?)

We only have one tv and our kids use the wii u tablet like a second tv. Couldn't cope without it.

Thanks.

Yeah, you still can. Unless you take it offline, obviously

Would anyone agree that a hacked Wii U is the ultimate retro gaming console?

The Wii U is an awesome system with the right set up. I have two hard drives connected to my WiiU: one with WiiU backups, and the other with Wii & Gamecube backups. Not to mention the virtual console titles & retro arch on the Wii U HDD too.

It was a bit of fiddling around, but one console with that many titles from various systems, and the range of controllers (good and bad, but GC controller with USBLoader/Nintendont is rad) make it a fairly versatile unit.

Perhaps it depends what you look for in titles or consoles themselves. If the Wii U did a bit better and had some decent modern day titles developed for it - we'd have a winner for best console. Full stop.

I reckon the Wii U will be a very sort after console in 10-20 years time.

Well that's what I'm telling everyone.
A (very good) HTPC might be the best choice as it can emulate even newer systems and you have Steam/GOG/uPlay/Origin/BattleNet and KODI but on the other hand the Wii U runs the whole library of GameCube, Wii and Wii U games natively, supports Wii U, Wii and GameCube hardware perfectly (thanks to HID to VPAD and Nintendont) and runs almost every other released Nintendo system through emulation which makes it just a fantastic console to invite your friends to your couch. :)

can I use 32 GB SD card to dump MLC of 32 GB Wii U?
does it dump the whole 32 GB, or only used part of the disk? so let's say I only use 10 GB then the MLC dump will be only 10 GB

I have a hard drive from my old Wii that is hacked. Can I use the same HDD on the wii u if I use this guide? Also can I use the same drive for the Wii and WiU games or do I need 2 drives?

I see. So I assume it'll make a whole 32GB MLC backup file regardless how much I've used then. Thanks
actually, my guess is because a 32gb sd card wont be enough since a 32gb sd card contains actually about 29,8gb (-10%) as usually done with all hdd

yeah I do know about that limitation
initially I thought if I only use only 10 GB of my Wii U drive, will the MLC backup also only need about 10 GB of free space or do they dump the whole blocks. apparently the answer is the latter

You can use it for the vWii as well. When you had an emuNAND (dumped with USB Loader GX) just go ahead and dump it again in vWii mode. It will overwrite your old emuNAND but your savegames are being kept there so you can take your old emuNAND along with you to the "next generation".

You could use the same drive for vWii and Wii U by using Mocha CFW FAT32 build (a special build) but 2 TB is the capacity limit here as Wii U won't allow bigger partitions.

However that's still buggy and slow so I recommend you use two drives which you switch every time (I know that sucks).

But lordelan, with all those USB ports, can you have both HDDDs connected at teh same time? Do you really have to switch?

vWii (or at least a few of the homebrew/emulators there) need a FAT32 drive being plugged into the upper port of the consoles back.
The drive for the Wii U could be plugged everywhere I think but it will prompt you to format it in a Wii U specific format which you can only use on YOUR Wii U and which can have a maximum size of 2 TB.
The problem is: The Wii U doesn't allow two drives being connected at the same time.
And on the other hand a few vWii homebrew/emulators (mainly Nintendont) don't work with two drives as well.

Hello fiveighteen I think you have to update the next part of your guide:

LATEST FW: 5.5.1
EXPLOITABLE FW: 3.0.0, 3.1.0, 4.0.0, 4.1.0, 5.0.0, 5.1.0, 5.3.2, 5.4.0, 5.5.0, 5.5.1

No, the "System Update" you see in the download log with a red X on it does NOT mean there is a new update out. That only means you are correctly blocking updates.
