Okay so lemme get this straight.

You are trying to hack your 5 year old nephew's switch, expect no one to notice, and are not doing it for the nephew, but for you?

Not even asking permission?

I'm not gonna hack it. At least not until it;s out of warranty and he asks me to. His switch won't be hacked ever really. But I am using my real situation to argue the theoretical point on behalf of my future self and all other switch owners. His Swith won't be hacked. If it were, it'd be mostly for his benefit, as hed be playing the pirated games far more than me. He plays my pirated Wii U and 3DS games. Why are so caught up on the exact situation? I want the theoretical power to control the switch, so that I can control mine if i were to buy one, and so that the other parents can control theirs. I feel bad about all the parents who will lose because of their children. I'm not selfish. Even if I had a switch and never wanted to share it, I would still argue that it should be possible to better restrict them. It's about the freedom to choose.

You don't have to want to do something to be able to argue that people should have the freedom to do so. The actual parents can't control this Swith very well, especially not for a child that lives in multiple places and has multiple caretakers.

Just going to throw this out there. Don't really care who it hairlips.

I bought the Switch and BOTW on day one. Paid the full $60 for the game.
I have not bought a day 1 game in over 10yrs. Why? Could not afford it.
And I really could not afford the Switch and BOTW, but I made many sacrifices to do so (including food).

Guess what? That is the most enjoyment I have had out of ANY GAME over the past 10yrs.
Did it hurt my pocket to shell out that $60. Yep! But totally worth it.

Well this thread went to crap fast, thanks to those who refuse to listen to reason.
I'm not even anti piracy, but I am against pirating everything without buying anything. Most games I play I pay for because the devs earned that money. If I can play a game all the way through then it's worth it. If it's too much I just be patient and wait for a sale. Part of being an adult is being patient and wise with money to afford games. You learn how to look for cheap indie games to fill the gaps between larger more expensive games

Unfortunately there's not much point trying to argue with people like that. They'll continue to plug their ears and ignore the simple fact that it's against the law, and continue to try to justify it. Best thing to do is ignore and ostracize them. They'll get what's coming to them eventually.
I'll be blunt. I couldn't give a damn about piracy. I don't care that you do it. I'd be a hypocrite if I did. Just don't try to justify it. It's not a difficult concept to grasp.

See, I don't care if people pirate, like, at all, I do it with old games all the time (Snes, NES, etc), but there's a fine line between being a pirate, and not caring what others say, and being a pirate, and being overly belligerent and downright rude.

Never said I did it. Said to ignore those that continue to try to justify it.

THIS. I don't mind piracy and even dip in sometimes. It's just when people try to justify it with invalid points.

How are you going to access porn or violence without a browser, and predators when the chat is locked to the phone app and for friends list only. Again your points don't correlate to the argument you are making.

Details. I expect them to add a browser back eventually. I expect them to add a full browser, Netflix, HBO, YouTube, etc. I don't want to worry about some future 13-year-old kid with a religious strict parent, sleeping over my house, finding the switch, and accessing that kind of a thing. Then the parent blaming me. Maybe the reason this kid was there because they were friends with my theoretical child, and then the parent won't let them sleep over ever again, thereby punishing my child. Here's the thing. Even though this scenario isn't that likely to happen to me specifically, with millions of Switch owners, it's a practical certainty that this happens to someone.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

"a gold plated hot dog with caviar is not worth $100, it's worth $10"
Yeah no you lost me at that second sentence.

Well, that's a thing that actually exists. Yes, there are people who splurge on upgraded food with ridiculous prices. I would pay up to $5 for some gold on my food just to check off that experience. It's not worth more than that, the gold doesn't make the food better or anything. I just want to be able to say I ate gold, and that is worth $5 to me.

Were going back to "overreacting" here and we'll add "over thinking" as well. I'm going to be brutally honest. If a kid wanted to access that stuff? A Nintendo game system will be one of the last things to even think about trying. There are Smartphones, Xboxs... The aforementioned laptops. Don't over complicate this. You're grasping for straws now.

That's not my problem. And no, I won't, but you people need to get a grip and realize you can't always get what you want. It's life, get used to it. Or you can make your own exploits and start doing your own programming so you can play all the games you want. You can't tell me to GTFO, so yeah, use the ignore button instead and either accept the fact of having to wait, or stop being so fucking entitled. Take your sanctimonious bullshit and cool your jets.

Your attitude is bad for Nintendo. If all the pirates decided to just quit Nintendo instead, they'd lose a lot of money. Why do you not see that? I am telling Nintendo that I am this close to quitting, and they aren't doing anything to stop me. So I will end up quitting. How is that good for them?

The smartphones and laptops could be locked down, and are not shared as much. I don't intend on sharing laptops and phones with future children's friends. I would expect them to use a game console if that's all they had. If they use their own laptop, that's their problem, can't blame me.

Firstly, you keep using theoretical situations based on what you hope the console will have. The console does not have a browser, it does not have voice chat. Until those actually get added, the points are invalidated due to not being based on what actually exists on the console.
Second, you lost me at that point not because of the food item. It's the fact that it is gold plated, with caviar (both of which are expensive items) and you say it's worth $10. The price is that high for a reason. It's it worth buying? No. That's why I don't eat it either. Your attempted point there made absolutely no sense.

Let's say you have a kid and go away from your kid's laptop, you come back and all the sudden everything is a bit off, and now your kid has all these free games, and the reasoning is cause your friend did that so he could play free games on your laptop, filling up space, and risking you to play games that you shouldn't play. Wouldn't you be mad that they tampered with your device that's yours, without permission, not even doing it for you but for theirselves? If yes, then that's basically what you're saying you want to do.

I don't intend on actually messing with his switch. I intend on messing with my own in the future. I'm just using his switch as an example since the people here aren't capable of thinking in the abstract. And it's not the same for laptops, because that's reversible. A swith isn't reversible. That's the problem.

Nintendo has had one of their best release years in a long while. New console, and a year jam packed with awesome games releases. If you don't like what they have done, then leave. They clearly will do just fine based on how well they are doing already. If we thought it was bad it would be obvious. Just look at wii u. Sold less in several years than what switch has done in 10 months. We don't just blindly support nintendo. Just because you don't like what they are doing doesn't mean that everyone doesn't, and in fact most have the opposite view

Yeah, those discounted prices definitely aren't sales, alright? Those % signs? Those are just for show. Clearly, you're just pissing on everyone's heads at this point. Lay off the caffeine. Hate to say that you're dead wrong.
Those are third party discounts. Where is the $20 or even $40 Mario Kart 8? If mario kart 8 was $40, i bet someone would buy it for the kid or he would use his own money. I don't feel right about asking a child to spend $60 on MK8, when he can already play it for free on my Wii U. I don't feel right about asking his parents or myself to spend 60 on MK8 either. Would rather save that gift to buy Yoshi or some other game that he couldn't get any other way.

Nintendo is on probation with me until they make something as awesome as Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. ColorSplash doesn't cut it.
