Hello, recently I bought a network adapter and a Samsung 80GB hard drive (SP0802N) for my PlayStation 2 (model SCPH-50001).

The problem is that when I insert the network adapter with the hard disk, the console does not detect it.

I have tried to format it with uLaunchELF and HDLoader, but they do not detect it.

I hope you can help me.

Hello.:)

Is your Adaptor a SONY original or a Clone like Game Star? With IDE or SATA connected ?

If IDE then please check the JUMPERS to set in MASTER on the BACK of your HDD.
Thank you.:)

In theory, you should be using cable select (which unsurprisingly will just select master anyway)

Could you have blown the fuses for the HDD power? It's quite easy to do that if you (or of course any previous owner) inserted or removed the network adapter with the power on (including when the red led is on)!

New to the forum and I need to bump this old thread regarding a similar issue.
I will try to keep it short :)
I had my PS2 stored for many years but it was fully functional with original Sony HDD/Network adapter and mechanical HDD (stored games via WinHIIP OPL).

However, today when I powered on, I heard the disk spinning and then immediately shut downs!

I checked the HDD on a PC with WinHIIP and at the begging it didn't recognise it. However after a repair through WinHIIP the disk was recognised and I could see the installed games and the partition components with no problem.

Back to the console though, the same thing keeps happening. I went testing every possible hardware combination with IDE and SATA (I have an Abit converter) with 2.5 and 3.5 disks (mechanicals and ssd).
The same! :(
The hdd on the Sony PS2 adapter is spinning and working for some less than a minute and when it needs to go for full spin it keeps it for 1-3 seconds and then shuts down immediately (I can also see it from the network lights except from the sound of the disks, where from blinking go to complete cease).

I also checked all the fuses ande they seem to be OK.

Maybe (?) we are talking for some short circuit or that the system can't pull up the energy needed for the hdd in full function, so it shuts the adapter function. Should I recap any capacitors?

Any piece of advise is welcome :)

Many thanks! That's my board
