Hundshamer's Hard Mod

On February 24, 2016, I attempted to install arm9 loader hax on my o3ds. It went well until actually installing it. I'm not sure what went wrong (I suspect the NAND restore that happened without the tool or the recommended guide at the time telling me about). Whatever the case, I got a blue-screen brick. Unrecoverable without a hard mod. So I ask @hundshamer to do it. He replied pretty quickly, saying he charges $25 for a restore or $40 for a hard mod (not too long after I saw reports of $50) plus $7 return shipping (plus the $6.80 it took for me to ship it). He also said his usual turnaround was 3 weeks. It seemed like a good deal at the time: $54 + 3 weeks to revive a console I killed. And so, I sent my 3DS in the mail and used Google Wallet to give him the $47. He confirmed he recieved my 3DS just two days later, on February 26, 2016.

During the 3 weeks, I would occasionally ask how it was coming.

Sorry to bother you. Judging by your profile messages, you're getting a lot of business.

You said your turnaround has been about 3 weeks, so does that mean you expect to have my 3DS to be finished on the 18th, or do you not know for sure yet?

hundshamer said:
I plan on sooner. I have a week without work, and my wife is going out of town with her mom to visit family. I have to get up early all week too, so I can get the kids off to school. I plan on clearing up my backlog, and shortening my turnaround. I had a move, surgery, and a new job, put me behind. That week will help me bring it back down to a week if at all possible.

If you finish it before March 15th, could you send it to this address:

I'm going to be out of town for a week, and if it's sent to the address I included with my 3DS when I'm not able to get to it, it'll drive me crazy.

On the line, yes.

Do you have an ETA?

I can understand that you're busy, but it's been 5 weeks, and I'd like to know if you have an ETA on my 3DS. If not, could you tell me about how many 3DS's are in front of mine in line, and how many you complete per day/week?

It is like 3rd in line right now.

It is 3rd in line.

And now he hasn't even read my PMs, including an important one. On April 25, 2016, I gave him a different address to ship to, and he hasn't read it yet. Since then he's been posting exclusively on his profile page, giving vague updates that we're not entirely convinced are true anymore. The evidence seems to indicate he's been lying.

I have likely waited the longest and I can not be any more infuriated at the stalled progress. As of Feb 3rd 2016, hundshamer has held my 3DS hostage. He promised on multiple times that its complete and ship the following Monday. This went on for weeks on end. I have tried to give him the benefit of the doubt many times, but in the end, this shows carelessness and disregard on his part.

The only indication that anyone's actually received theirs back is @breakingspell.

Reporting in, I shipped two consoles on March 12th and paid extra to have one of them done within a week. I finally received them back on April 23rd, and we negotiated a partial refund. Our guy did follow through in the end, but it was not a pleasant transaction in the least, probably one of the last times I do business without conducting research first.

Something compels me to keep returning to hundshamer's page to see how much worse this has gotten. I can confirm that in a Skype conversation with hunds, he pointed out that the only reason my consoles shipped that day was because I'd paid extra, but they'd supposedly been done for at least 2 weeks before that. A lot of his stories didn't add up, they became a trickle of excuses.

Hunds did deliver in the end, but that's after I'd filed a claim against the Google Wallet payment I'd sent. I'd advise doing the same, especially people that have been waiting since February, this is ridiculous.

I do have a few done, and will try to add to that before I go to the post office on Monday. Thanks for the support.
However, he hasn't been online since Sunday, May 8 at 12pm, so either he doesn't plan on telling anyone he's sent their 3DS's, or he's flat out lying.

I suppose I can give him another week or two. After all, as of May 3rd:

I did say that I am busy with finals too, yes? Sometimes the wrong bookmark gets clicked. I am not answering personal PM ATM. I am not accepting new orders yet either. I am not trying to be rude, but if you knew how many PM's I have right now. Most of them are can you do a mod or is my mod done yet. I am working on them as I can. Finals are next week, and they are taking precedence as of right now.

If the underlined bit is true, that makes his exams this week. However, more communication would be nice. In order to respond (or at least read his customers' PMs), it would take, what, an hour?

Anyway, hopefully this documents most of the troubles his customers are going through. Waiting over 11 weeks (7 more than initially indicated) for mods to be completed, and being kept in the dark.

Ouch, can't be easy doing that stuff for lots of other people, but if you can't do it in a timely manner then don't..

Last direct response I had from him was March 23 with him saying: "My estimates were wrong, sorry. A9LH cause many bricks. I will get it out as soon as possible" The weird thing is the A9LH exploit didn't really become a thing til after he had received my 3DS which was on February 25.

I can't even get him to respond to me. I filed my dispute with google wallet about 5 minutes ago, Im most definitely going this weekend to get my stuff back. I give him his chance to make things right for everyone.

I know Hunds, not personal but I can vouch for him not pulling a dick move and nicking your 3DS.
I know it's annoying that you have to miss your handheld for that long but I got good faith in him.

I must still be asleep but the last time hes said anything to me was March 16th @invaderyoyo I miss read your message

I would like to comment on my experience with hundshammers hardmod service it wasnt that pleasant.
I sent him my new 3ds on February 19th he received it the next week. I received it back around late March only because I constantly asked for updates on my hardmod over the 4 week period he bumped me to the front of the line. he did offer some custom amiibo cards as compensation but I never received them. overall I do not recommend his service at all I payed at 57$ overall. If I didn't constantly ask I would be likely still waiting till now.

I do wish hundshamer all the best but waiting months for mods is just really bad. I know someone who's waiting on a mod right now :(

i hope you guys get your 3ds's as soon as possible :/

damn sad news to hear. real life happens, but if it does you should not do this. not in this way at least.

I'm pretty sure everyone who knows hundshamer would say to trust him. He actually does have a massive backlog, and I know it sucks to have your console missing for that long, but think of it this way: if you hadn't sent it to him, the thing would be a useless brick anyway.

@hundshamer has always been timely and focused on quality in the past in my dealings. Something to keep in mind: This isn't replacing hundshamer's job or anything, this is on top of work and school and family. People have real lives, and real things happen.

@khaderwelaye sorry but i disagree. it is his job. not his main job certainly but definitely a side job.

that said, exams should come first. they're simply too important.
and personally i blame margen67. he's been telling everyone to install A9LH and that's it perfectly safe yadda yadda. that must've added to hunds workload.

Umm, he quit his job, go read his profile post.

Mine wouldve never bricked if i had ejected my SD card on boot, and wouldn't have pressed the recovery button combo on a N3DS. Ive done, now 3 N3DS's and 6 O3DS's on A9LH, its not that hard. I actually just completed a Pokemon 20th Anniversary New 3DS around 5 Mins ago.

Maybe he got overwhelmed and disappeared. Who knows but no one here can say "I vouch for hundshammer" unless you know him personally.
