>Dove: Selling beauty products

Dove's audience doesn't even plays video games. Also the character at the ad isn't even sexualized.

Now you forget that any form of beauty (however minor or large) = sexualization in the eyes of Twitter users, where this was posted to.

But in all seriousness, do they really think it would be better if characters were all overweight (as they imply) or had some sort of other 'not beautiful' thing about them. Sure the odd one should, but you also have to respect physical limits as someone who weighs over 200 lbs is not going to be able to have the same physical abilities as someone who is closer to 140-150. They likely will not be running around and leaping high into the air with fancy acrobatics moves.

Also, does this not apply to men too? Sure you can argue that men are usually big buff dudes in games, but that's also an unrealistic model for guys. I could probably count the amount of unattractive or overweight guys I've seen in games on a single hand.

I don't mean this to be a post hating on overweight people, I'm not exactly skinny myself. And I also do not intend it to be a 'BUT MEN TOO' post. Just wanting to point out some flaws in how they presented their argument.

This reminds me of when Gillette tried to combat "sexism" by portraying men as inherent assaulters/harassers.

Yeah, fuck this virtue-signalling. Why's it always depicting men as the bad guys, and women as the innocent victims? Last I checked, the gender most likely to demean women for being 'ugly' (or, on the contrary, 'too beautiful') is other women - to find and confirm their place in the pecking order, so to speak. Not men.

And so what if video game characters are provocatively dressed? From all the games I've seen in, say, the last twenty years (if not longer - NES) women have been able to be just as involved in violence as men. Fucking Metroid, on the NES, did this best by hiding the power suit-wearing character's true sex until, like, the end of the game - surprise it's a woman this whole time!
And as for the arcade...Street Fighter had women since the second game, and Mortal Kombat had Fatality-causing females since its first game too, if I'm not mistaken.

I might not like the concept of 'violent women', but I can't deny it's been the bloody norm for decades, regardless of how they're dressed. And if girls want to show off skin, more power to 'em, let them do it (...as it also means more 'eye candy' for us guys, too, of course!).

If they want to represent fat unhealthy chicks in video games - let them, but make it realistic.

1: Run 4 paces, stop for a breath (and to wipe the sweat from their brow).
2: Stop the mission 1/3 of the way through so they can stop for a cheese burger or some chocolate "top up health" bars.
3: Show them taking a dump and finding it difficult to wipe their own arses.
4: Show her waking up in the morning with a sore back hardly able to get up without needing someone to pull her up.
5: Give them 10 points for finding insulin, they will need it to help with their diabetes.
6: Cutscene to show her morbidly obese mother dying in her early 40's because the fat caused to much strain on her heart, and the blood couldn't make it through those fat clogged arteries.

Fat chicks in video games, nah! I can't see that being a big hit. People want eye candy, not eye puke.

Not all fat people have diabetes...though they're more at-risk for it.

"Education team"? More like "brainwashing team". If I ever had to watch that kind of seminars at my job, I'd demand to be paid extra.

They don't want realism though. On the contrary they push the "fat women acceptance" agenda as something healthy.

Remember Sony's Fat Princess? The "muh representation" mob cried really hard about it being "problematic".

Pretty much this. Also lots of women see themselves as fat and freak out just for gaining 1-2 kilos while men point them out that they can't see the difference like I do with my mother and aunt every time they cry about "getting fat" while both of them are normal weight.

They might not have it "yet", however they are well on the road to getting it. Also with the added strain on their joints and hearts, they are definately lowering their life span. There's a reason you don't see very many old fat people - because they died before reaching old age,

Forget "old age". Many of them die at their 30 years. Especially during "pandemic" lots of vaccinated obese people "suddenly" died at their 20-30 years.

If the world was ending and all the hot slim women had been wiped out, I'd let the two wheelchair bound chicks take turns on tugging me off. I'd maybe even let the one with the red and blue top get her laughing gear around the big fella if she played her cards right.
Don't flatter yourself :P

Ultimately this is harmless and if it makes people happy, good.

That said, maybe it is the limitation of the art style, but doesn't she still look idealized base on her counterpart?

As for realism, every game would have fall damage, if we cared about that, that much.

I just have to present this, though.

Let's say you have an avatar that is representative of actual human physiology, because you are that type of special individual who NEEDS to feel visually represented.

I think back to Grand Theft Auto - San Andreas. I think that game kind of handled it perfectly.

You could turn CJ into whatever you wanted to. You could have a buff tank, or a skinny toothpick. You could have a cuddly chubby bear wearing heart boxers and an eyepatch, or a suave Loc'd out G with all the drip.

It was all based on your behavior in the game, and your decisions. If you took CJ to Cluckin' Bell and fed him six family buckets of chicken, he would get fat. His stamina would drop. He would get tired more quickly. He wouldn't be able to jump over things he COULD clear if he were healthier.

You get where I am going with this. If you instead send CJ to the gym every day and eat salads, you would have a much higher natural level of stamina that would make the entire game easier for you, but you had to make sure that you ate regularly and engaged in regular exercise.

I wonder how the same butthurt gamer chicks would feel if their avatar had the same negative stats as people in actual, real life do, compared to healthy, athletic people. I mean, sure. Let's do that.

Go ahead, "Sapphire". Your avatar looks JUST like you. And has your stamina, too. Same strength level as you have, grunting when you pick up a case of Pepsi.

Good luck on your quest. Pack a lunch. We know you're packing two. Gotta eat one on the way.

I mean, you chose to play life, itself, on Hard Mode, because you don't like portion control and exercise. If you want to feel represented, let's really go for it. Maybe it will make sense to you, then.

If we cared about "realism", BotW and TotK's weapons and shields would last much longer than they actually do.

Also Assassin's Creed Odyssey would show "realistic" ancient Greece, and not depict women in the nation's (and Sparta's) military, mercenary list, and political realm. Same with people of African descent - there were very few dark-skinned people in ancient Greece, let alone Sparta.

Having more people in video games that don't fit the norm, is much better than the fat shaming here, that doesn't actually encourage anyone. That can, in fact, make things worse.
I don't know if I agree.

When I was growing up, we had maybe ONE fat kid in class. And that kid got picked on. That is why the other 29 out of 30 kids WEREN'T fat.

I think being fat should be openly discouraged and shamed. I have no problem with fat-shaming, and fully and openly support it. I also shame alcoholics and drug addicts. I shame anyone who harms others because of their willful, poor decisions that impact other people negatively. I am not at all sorry. Not in the slightest.
