I am unable to test the cube ATM, but upon shaking it I can hear rattling.
Power cables come tomorrow and I don't have a screw driver yet.

It feels extremely light, yet I see controller ports and what appears to be the mb.

Haven't felt a cube In a while, but this thing is only 3lbs!

This must be the stupidest thing ever.
Why so much worry and so desperately try to get it open ( which by the way won't tell you if it's actually working or not, unless a big chunk is missing ) and potentially risk to brake it ?

With all due respect, can't you just wait a few more hours, plug it in when the cables arrive and see if it works ?
Kids these days

Got my power and AV cable to test it out...
I'm getting horizontal lines going Upward slowly on my TV on any screen.
What is causing this? Defective AV cable or is the rattling inside the GameCube upon shaking related?
Tested on two TVs, same result.

I've done some thinking... And I think I know what I'm going to do.
I'm going to send this GameCube back and buy a DOL-001 I found.
Not sure if going this route is the best idea, but at this point, why not.

A DOL-001 DOES work with a WiikeyFusion, right?

Edit: if it turns out to be a Rev A, how will I know if its IPL is v1.1 or higher?

Did some searching, do I understand this right:
USA CONSOLES CANNOT HAVE IPL v1?
If so, I should be set considering its a DOL-A USA

Ouch... Dug deeper and I found that there's a chance it's a v0 :(

Those pics aren't very good, so I can't say for sure what your video problem may be. It may just be a crap A/V cable.

If your plans for this are a portable, which I've assumed all along they are based on the other thread where its discussed a bit. You don't really need to worry much about Wiikey compatibility anymore. If you flash Swiss as the loader (which you should) then all IPL's are compatible.

You really should head on over to GC-Forever and read up a bit in the hardware/modding section. Pretty much everything GC portable making is covered over there.

dont know if its been suggested but u can use the crystal bic pen's and melt the tip with a lighter and shove it into the screw hole and let it cool and harden then u can unscrew it.

Your problem with the rolling video lines/picture quality is because of the cheap noisy power supply you are using. If you have a 1st party A/V cord which is better shielded along with the 3rd party power supply your should see a improvement in your video quality.

Thanks, but I'm leading toward the possibility that the Video/GPU is messed up. (considering the cube has things rolling around inside upon shaking)
I bought a REV-A Cube off Ebay that comes with a standard Power/AV, so I'll try both out and report back.

Edit:

Anything after this post is OFFTOPIC.
If you came here for information, here is your answer:

The vertical lines are caused by noise from a crappy AC Power Adaptor http://www.amazon.com/Power-Adapter-Cable-BRAND-Nintendo-Gamecube/dp/B000N1IZOO/ref=pd_cp_vg_1 < being the culprit.

I decided to return the strange GC anyway due to it's odd condition. The REV-A I got looks great!

I bought this orange DOL-001 in Japan last month, w/ controller, AV cable, and PSU included, for 1100 yen. (i.e. 11 bucks). Works great, looks great. And I'll be damned if I'm cutting it up. (I am installing a Xeno GC though).

I also bought an AV Famicom and a Super Famicom Jr., both like-new in the box. Those cost me a little more than 11 dollars, unfortunately.

Dang. Looks like it's in great condition too!
And *GASP* It's a REV-A!
Lucky you! (Although you don't seem to be into the idea of ripping it apart :P)

Was it New/Used/Refurbished?

Also are the AV and Power the original Nintendo ones?

I was desperate to get it open because I'll be needing to have the motherboard and everything except for the disc drive in a good shape.
The seller has a short-term return policy, and I personally don't want to get screwed over.

It's used in original condition, not refurbed. I bought it at a place called "Book Off" in Yokohama. It's primarily a used book chain, but many "Book Off" stores have a video and game/computer section too. All parts (console, controller, cable, PSU) that came with it are original Nintendo. And, I've confirmed its function using a Freeloader (a boot disc for getting around the region lock). Once the Xeno GC is in there, I won't need the Freeloader anymore.

I already have the ability to play GC on my modded Wii ... but I just like the Gamecube better.

Aren't you lucky!
Are you sure you aren't going to take it apart? :P

If you reconsider (and I finish mine) I might be able to make yours portable if you pay for shipping and parts.

Hah, no way. It's an orange Gamecube!

As for 'lucky' ... you should see the AV Famicom I got. Well, here ... take a look.

This manual is stamped on the back with the same serial number as the console.
