Here's another noob but very important question on Old 3DS's. Now that a new emunand and gateway version are out, should I want to replace my original 2GB SD card for say a class 10 8GB SD, would it be ok to simply remove my 2 GB SD, activate the gateway exploit (with the 3.2.2 dat already inside) on recovery mode, choosing to format emunand, and update it from scratch? Would that work? It's not really for me, but I really would like to be sure on this, because I need to give advice on replacing gateway to someone who isn't familiar with gateway or the English language, and that seemed like the easiest, cleanest method I could come up with since it doesn't involve other programs and apps.
Also, does anyone know if it's possible to make a nand backup with the small 2 GB card that comes with the 3DS, or if it's possible to backup the nand (make a backup of the sysnand) in the recovery mode using a diferent card, or is that backup actually from the emunand, and thus needs the SD?
Thanks in advance.
While that would work, you would be starting over from scratch, basically. Something you can do is transfer your emuNand over to the new card using emuNand Tool.
- Copy all files from the old SD card to your computer
- Use EmuNand Tool to extract the emuNand
- Insert the new card into the 3DS with Launcher.dat
- Run "Format Emunand"
- Copy all files to the new SD card
- Use EmuNand Tool to inject the emuNand onto the new card
It'll be like nothing happened, and you'll suddenly have more space. The process is pretty painless.
The Old 3DS has 1 GB of NAND memory, so you should be fine using a 2GB card to back it up. If it already has an emuNand partition, though, it might be cutting it a bit close. If you have another card, I would use that instead. The NAND backup option in the Gateway Launcher will always back up sysNand (since you're running the launcher on sysNand, and it will crash if you try to launch it again in emuNand).
Hey everyone, my friend just told me that the gateway team released an update for the old 3ds, to support the emunand up to 9.8.
Does that mean I can finally use it in my 3ds? Or it has nothing to do to make it work on FW 9.4.0-21E?
emuNand support refers to being able to run a copy of the internal memory. Unfortunately, the system's internal version can't be above 9.2 in order to be able to reach the launcher and anything after that. Hopefully a new exploit can be found and understood, but there's no telling when or if that will happen.
hi, i can play old NDS games on N3DS, with gateway (i have both gateway card) playing with red gateway card its ok, but i dont know how work blue card with NDS game, pls help me. thx thx
It is the blue card that is used for NDS games. The red card plays 3DS games and only 3DS games. Normally, you would simply place your .nds files anywhere on the blue card's SD card, then run the card like any other game, and you would be presented with a menu where you can navigate and select which file you want to run. Most likely, if the blue card is not working, you will need to install bluecardfix.cia to your sysNand. If you haven't already, you might be interested in installing the mset.cia file as well, to enable the NVRAM exploit.
afaik the blue card isn't made to play nds games, only the red card
For future reference, the red card only plays 3DS games. The blue card is a standard NDS flash card and can be used for NDS games, but not 3DS games. The blue card is included because the NVRAM Profile installer is an NDS rom, because the memory it needs to write to is the profile used for DS mode software.
