Nintendo Ends Miiverse This November In Japan

img_0.jpg
Launched back in 2012 on the WiiU, Nintendo's social network is officially closing down this November 8 in Japan.

After shutting down, accessing Miiverse will have the following error codes 115-5004 for the Wii U and 015-5004 for the 3DS:

The over 70 Wii U games and over 20 Nintendo 3DS games that have Miiverse features in Japan will be left feeling empty after the service shuts down, as illustrated in Super Mario Bros. U image below:

No word if or when Miiverse will be affected in other regions. However, it shouldn't come as a surprise since the Nintendo Switch does not use Miiverse features. Time to move on, I guess.

I don't get why they discontinue Miiverse.
It was badly managed by staff members who didn't give a crap about it and they were dubbed as "Badmins" by Miiverse users for not doing their job properly. Not sure Nintendo specifically ever cared about what the hell happened on it anyway.

The disappointing thing about Miiverse is that all the artistic drawings done by its users will be lost and that's a damn shame.

More like "not a success" than "a massive failure". It did well considering how odds were against it. Released shortly before two more powerful systems were announced, their main backer (E.A.) jumped ship almost immediately and started what was practically a hate campaign against them, completed games weren't released (again, EA's decision), people like Jimmy Fallon saying the Wii U was an addon to the Wii, and so much more.

Honestly, it most mostly EA's fault. The video I linked only showed like half the shit they pulled. I've never seen a company be so petty.
I'm mostly saying it was "a massive failure" given Nintendo's expectations to sell 100 million units because the Wii did, combined with the other issues Nintendo and the system had. it only sold 13.56 million before production ended and it was replaced, far below what Nintendo would think it would sell.
*looks at the list and finds MK8 and Splatoon on it* This games had a Miiverse integration? I can't remind the ability to post something within this games. Does that mean no more online play for this titles?
online gameplay is not disappearing (yet), but features that depended on Miiverse will no longer function.

Nintendo said:
Many games use Miiverse as a major game-play feature, including Super Mario Maker for Wii U. What happens to those games when Miiverse shuts down?
  • Super Mario Maker (Wii U): Users will still be able to share levels, but will no longer be able to comment on them.
  • Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars (Wii U, Nintendo 3DS): While users will still be able to play Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars and complete all 88 levels in the main game, the Community feature will be discontinued, preventing players from sharing levels and receiving additional Stars. As there will be a limit to the number of Stars that can be obtained, not all objects may be unlocked from the Workshop.
  • Splatoon (Wii U): Miiverse posts will no longer display in Inkopolis Plaza or the game's stage maps.
  • Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS (Wii U, Nintendo 3DS): The Miiverse stage will still be playable, but Miiverse user posts will not display in the background. Players will also be unable to post replays to YouTube/Miiverse, share stages or create tournaments.
  • Mario Kart 8 (Wii U): Players will not be able to upload game-play videos to YouTube since they also post to Miiverse at the same time. The tournament function will also not be available.
  • Super Mario 3D World (Wii U): In Super Mario 3D World, the Miiverse posts that appear on the course select screen and when selecting courses will disappear. Players will still be able to collect in-game stamps, but not post them to Miiverse.
  • Xenoblade Chronicles X (Wii U): In Xenoblade Chronicles X, the BLADE report feature will no longer be available.

Fair point. I always thought that was a stupid expectation (the Wii was one of the best selling systems of all time after all), and they lowered it after a year or something. I just meant on its own, it wasn't a massive failure. At least not from my point of view. I also feel like they get way too much blame. I don't know if you watched the EA presentation when it was first announced (I never want to see Mr Caffeine again), but they bet everything on EA. At least half of their presentation was different EA developers talking about the ways they planned to utilize the Gamepad. I would like to see how things would have turned out if Nintendo didn't have a knife in their back.

The point is that no matter what Nintendo does with the Switch, it is hackable. It is impossible to quash all bugs in code. See Nintendo's thinking is that if they limit the amount of code they write for the Switch OS, it makes it harder to hack the system. And to some extent it's true, because less code means less points of failure within the code. Obviously, Nintendo fucked up with smhax. They failed to learn their lesson from the 3DS OS. Or how about the 3DS bootloader? The code is compact and quite short, but because Nintendo messed up RSA (again), it did not matter. Nintendo's strategy of less is more is not infallible.

Regarding Flipnote, Japan is a very conservative country socially, and so is Nintendo. So when Japanese media caught on to the fact that Japanese kids were basically sexting each other with their 3DS systems, Nintendo freaked and pulled Flipnote.
*facepalm* no, no and no. The ammount of code is as good an indicator for ammount of security bugs as a CPU clock frequency a good indicator for how fast the computer runs. Sony's playstation os has probably less security issues (less hax is a good indicator I guess) not because its short but because they actually invested money in software security

The Wii U sold poorly because it was a poor idea, poorly marketed by Nintendo. Nobody knew what the hell it was, because Nintendo didn't tell them. They had to leave signs up on the display cases at Wal-Mart saying, "Wii U games will not play on the Wii," because Nintendo didn't offer an adequate explanation of the product.

Not that people would want the damned thing anyway. I went back and played my Wii U, and was quickly reminded of how awkward the design was. The gamepad is huge, and doesn't contribute much to the experience beyond annoyance. Load times are unacceptably long. Accessing the Wii half of the system is clumsy. It's like convenience wasn't even a concern for Nintendo when they made this thing. The high price didn't exactly add to its appeal, either. Nintendo made a system that was maybe as powerful as 2005's Xbox 360, and they wanted $300 for it? Ridiculous.

Getting back to the topic, I like Miiverse a lot and will be sorry to see it go. I don't know what you guys are doing to get suspended, but you should keep in mind that this isn't Twitter. You can't post pictures of dicks, or stupid conspiracy theories, or pick fights with other members, or make profane rants while you're over there. It's a child friendly network, and you should act accordingly.

Then why not just create a Miiverse for Switch?
Because. Nintendo are beyond stupid when it comes to features.

Or because less people are hacking Sony consoles than there are people hacking a Nintendo console.

They should try harder to have a better social network. It was worst than xbox live and miiverse was released years later to it, why is it so hard for nintendo to just find the middle ground between the network for mature gamers to have flexible social interaction in games and "child block" environment? There is a reason why parental locks was invented and still focus too much on limiting people, probably to save themself from possible responsible backlash from law suits or something.

They could easily make an online community and voice chat and make it that if the parents are actually concerned about what their children see anymore, make the Parental Controls app and features on the Switch be able to lock out communities and voice chat.

And it took an entire community to use it to make hombrew into what it is now.
The important part is that you get ACE, not what you use it for... that is the software- security part of things, not all the homebrew apps and games the community made...
