You said "this is Nintendo we are talking about". You meant First Party
Alright I will clarify my previous comment. Nintendo has a history of porting and milking successful games. To say this is a flat "no" just seems like you are ignoring Nintendo's history.
If this game actually sells well, then it wouldn't be a shock if Nintendo decided to port it to the Switch

It's not common that they do that between two current systems though. I can only think of Mario Maker. I know of Zelda BotW and TP too, but that was in the transition period between consoles so that's different.

But it is of course not impossible that they'll do it. I just wouldn't get my hopes up for it to happen.

If they didn't announce Metroid Prime 4, they probably would've ported it to Switch, but like the Pokemon game, they've set up a long term hype machine and anything less than MP4 would be a slap in the face to the people waiting (in what will be a very long time) for it.

the 3ds version looks and plays much better, they also tweaked the gameplay some. There are some really good gameplay videos out there, game looks fantastic.

its not like they can find out who did it so theres no risk of doing it if they upload it from a vpn
The idea of being sued for it is enough to scare most people anyway, I'd say. Regardless of how safe they do it.

Still wished someone could port AM2R on the 3ds..
That's a lot of effort for not much result imo. I'm fairy certain AM2R doesn't require a very powerful PC (my shitty lappy runs it fine-) so a lot of people would rather just play it on their PC.

Theres no way that someone who got a review copy will leak the game. Early store sales yes but not review copies.

Nintendo tracks those after all.
Nintendo sends out review copies, there's always the chance someone will break their NDA and rip it but it's very unlikely.

If you have the tikshop homebrew you can usage your tickets right now and one of them is the metroid samus returns pre load. So you'll be able to get it free but still won't be able to play until the actual release date

Smash Brothers, Yoshi Wolly World, Super Mario Maker, Hyrule Warriors?
Don't forget we already got Mario Kart 8, Splatoon (in a way) and Pokken Tournament ported to the Switch.
My best bet would be that Smash and Mario Maker are next, just because they have to milk those the best they can.
I can almost be sure if they do, they'll make the same amount of sales they did on the Wii U easily, if not surpassing them as well.

Shitty decision for the fans though, seeing mostly ports, but sadly greed has more power here. :/

Highly unlikely that's gonna happen.
Doctor64 did want to release the source for it, and even make a Linux port.
If he did the Linux port I'm sure it would have been easier to get the source for it, but since Nintendo decided to DMCA the project, everything that can be posted after the DMCA notice could end up in a legal court for him.

Nintendo really likes to screw things up at the worst moment, if they just waited a little longer to make the DMCA we could have gotten the source code for AM2R and ported it to consoles as a Homebrew app.

Samus Returns for 3ds was probably developed directly for the 3ds, which isn't necessary a bad thing, but means that all assets optimised for viewing them on a 240p display. So while some textures look sharp or models have decent details on 3ds, on a Switch in 720p it doesn't look very good. And in the end developing assets directly for low end hardware is cheaper. So unless you're developing Pokemon, so you're gaming doesn't need full performance and you don't want to remake 800+ models and animations, you rather save this cost and make some extra profit.
Also doing high res assets and then downgrading them is even more expensive and end up looking worse then targeting low end from the beginning. And Wii U assets can probably be used without much hassle, because they target very similar specs, so Nintendo obviously chooses the easier solution, which is to port Wii U games

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
