yes. extended storage can be enabled as default install location. I was able to install games from one hdd to the extended storage hdd no problem.
I can only pray that when I transfer it’ll free up that space from my internal. Cuz right now it won’t let install anything

Just as I figured when I transfer a game that’s on app2usb to extended storage no free space is given. I’m guessing just transfer it all and then rebuild database?

yes, right before you rebuild the database.
Ok kool thanks. Ok so now I know what I’m getting into. The downfall to using extended storage is that sometimes when we KP it erases our fpkg from the screen and we gotta inject our app.db to get them back? Also when I do the backup do I have to have the extended storage plugged in?

a kp shouldn't erase content. rebuilding the database will. I'd leave it plugged in, yes.

can I hijack this thread for similar newbie question app2usb. so If i want to specifiy the games to move from internal to external, all I need to do is to enable MODE_MOVE with the list of game to move ? If the MODE_MOVE is not activated, then the payload will basically move everything ?

Just put the specific game id on the move list, it will ignore the rest.

how do we determine the game ID ? by exploring the PS4 folder after we installed the game ?

I have tested the app2usb payload before this with just two games installed and although it has moved the game to external, the game internal storage are still showing them. I was under the impression that the payload will automatically delete them from internal after copying them to external but then realised that PS4 system is unlikely to be be able to officially recognise the external as a storage. In that case,

1. how do we check on PS4 whether an installed game is now on Internal or External ?

2. and if PS4 will always see all the installed game as part of internal storage (even after we have moved them using app2usb) won;t it also block attempt to install new game once we reach the internal storage capacity ?

You use the CUSA ID, typically there are different ID for for different region, different release, you can use Gamefaqs game search to find the CUSA id for each game.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

It is Symbolic link to the internal HDD, even though data is on external drive.

Apology.. I actually deleted the bottom part addition and then add them to my reply to you to avoid the impression of double posting.

Double post is me replying twice, if you can use extended format, use extended, it is much easier than app2usb.

Well if you run a game that is on external hdd without the hdd connected, the system will notify you. It is just symbolic link, you need the external hdd to run the game, if the hdd is missing the ps4 will says game not found etc.

i actually started out with extended storage but dont like the inconvenience of having the drive made exclusive to PS4 only. I learnt that the hard way by connecting it back to PC after formatting it as extended storage. I think I prefer the flexibility of downloading new PKGs directly to the drive and then unplug from PC and plug them to PS4 and start the whole installation and app2usb process. In this mmaner, it also allow me to maintain the game in its original PKGs form.

.

how do we monitor and manage the storage capacity since app2usb with the symlink have rendered the internal storage capacity status essentially useless.

You just have to keep eyes on how much storage you have left, when you ran out of room internally you won't be able to install game.

Does anyone know how to copy over game saves to the external hdd via app2usb? I've gotten everything else like games and dlc's to transfer over except game saves. I think we need to add a new command line in the app2usb.ini file. Any help or thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

There is a program called hxd hex editor, just drag and drop the pkg in there and it gives you the cusa number and region.
