Tesla limits Passenger Play feature after U.S. opens investigation

Tesla has implemented some restrictions on its Passenger Play feature after the National Traffic Highway Safety Administration (NTHSA) announced it would begin a preliminary evaluation of its effects on safety. In December of 2019, Tesla rolled out its Tesla Arcade program, that let users play games built into the car on its center touch screen while parked. The program has included many classic arcade and arcade-style games, plus newer releases like Cuphead and Stardew Valley. Around December 2020, however, an update was released that allowed games to be played while in motion, with the only safety measure in place an easily-dismissed pop-up asking players to confirm they are a passenger before beginning the game. Combined with Tesla's controversial Autopilot function, which can handle some degree of driving responsibilities without input from the driver, some safety experts are concerned Teslas will enable drivers to take their hands and eyes off the road while driving.

On December 8, a new Tesla owner named Vince Patton filed a report with the NTHSA after seeing a YouTube video demonstrating the new feature, and testing it out for himself. “I only did it for like five seconds and then turned it off,” said Mr. Patton. “I’m astonished. To me, it just seems inherently dangerous.” On December 21, the NTHSA's Office of Defects Investigation began its preliminary evaluation of the situation. However, by December 23, the NTHSA had confirmed in statements to The Associated Press and Teslerati that Tesla was changing the feature so it could once again only be activated while parked.

You realize that statistically an autonomous car is less likely to crash?
Some people just don't have amazing driving skills but they are still allowed to drive cuse despite not being amazing at it, its sufficient to get a license.

Yeah lemme turn on autopilot, in my tesla, goto sleep and have a 2 ton rolling artillery piece going down the interstate @ 150kmh

That is why I don't trust them. You're trusting a 2 ton machine with your life after only a few years of testing. Other machines in workplaces and such have been tested thoroughly and have proper standards to ensure safety. Autopilot on cars hasn't had the same testing yet. It just needs more time to mature.

Numbers don't lie. It is safer to drive while autopilot is on vs off.
Also autopilot is one thing, FSD is another and you have to pay for it.

Atm FSD is still being developed hence you have to have to pay attention and have your hands on the wheel but still from what I can tell on highways manual interventions would be close to zero if any.

Autonomous vehicles are here to stay and it's only a matter of time before the weird ones would be the people who drive manually.
This all argument kinda reminds me of people who are afraid of taking a plane when it is a fact that they are the safest means of transportation on earth.

Is Elon musk even related to Nikola tesla?
Lol of course not, but honestly I'm kinda glad that a modern hi tech car or the like has brought the Tesla name into the zeitgeist. He was legit an overlooked figure in his fields with Edison often getting more credit for creating inferior products to that which Tesla created.

And that's the problem. Morons whether they get a legal driver's license by miracle or buy one, they put others at risk who actually know the rules, laws, and ability to drive.

I hate-love watching these videos because we can learn from it:

But we still use alternating current and not direct current, at least for power "transmission"

Now imagine a tesla tanker or chemical truck in a wreck
And gas cars are different how? they are called 'combustion' vehicles for a reason...

Like it or not statistically batteries are less likely to catch fire. People have the wrong impression because when a single one does catch fire it makes the news while at the same time thousands of gas cars are catching fires, but because it's normal it doesn't make the news.

Crush a fully charged lithium battery and see what happens just don't grab any water

Atleast I can put out a gas fire with enough water

So your problem is that firefighters are not equipped to deal with batteries? That can be fixed and it will soon enough when gas cars are a thing of the past.
If we were to stop technology because someone ain't properly equipped to deal with it we would not be going anywhere.
