From personal experience, cheap media never really works for the launch consoles even with a good burner. The tolerances just are not there in a VC0A CDROM analog servo from 1994 to handle such garbage :) Same with my VC1A USA consoles, which...
Unfortunately I don't have a SCPH-1xxx/3xxx PS1 to test cheap discs on it. The slightly worn SCPH-5552 is the oldest one I have.
The SCPH-39004 PS2 I have can read much bad burned discs, even those that stutter on the 7502 and 9002. But that PS2...
Does these burners also burn cheap media into good playing PS1 games? Like Ritek and CMC Magnetics CD-R's.
My exprience is that with good media some "bad" burners can make good playing games too, but only a good burner can turn cheap media into...
Ha! I miss seeing that little blue disk icon next to the title of the name of the program.
BTW, I found this interesting video on repairing a "bad laser" on a SCPH-1001 PSX. Basically, the plastic track for the laser pickup unit had worn down...
Why there isn't any program for the PS1 (and PS2) to just simply read every file from the CD (or DVD) and eventually show the transfer speed, so it will be easier to know how readable a disc is for the console, before playing the game?
Quick update on those 74 minute TY's that I got, they're working incredibly well! Interestingly, the atip data from them is extremely similar to the TY That's CD-R CDR-74ZY:
ATIP info from disk:
Indicated writing power: 4
Disk Is not...
This is key on good quality disc burning, the slower the best.
I had an old (and I mean really old) CD-R 2x speed disk burning drive and it worked wonders back then using Verbatim CD-R disks (also 2x-4x speed supported). Can't remember which...
I'm planning to. As I mention in my previous posts and what I want to do is:
I found 6 SATA disc burners in my storage boxes.
My current USB slim burner(GTA0N)'s slowest write speed 10x. Not planning to burn anymore PS1 game on it.
I want to...
After reading through this thread and Alex's excellent CD-R guide, I've went down a bit of a rabbit hole with this and after a bit of trial and error, I seem to be getting good results on my SCPH-5500 console.
I've done a few burns now with a...
That GTA0N seems to be the same model as the "HL-DT-ST slimline in a Dell desktop (it's a Optiplex 9020)" that I tried in the beginning of this topic. The results are nearly the same: CD's burned with it booted, but the audio/fmv was choppy.
So...
I didn't count them, but I think it's really 1001
The book has 960 pages and that's including the lead-in, table of contents, index, credits and pictures. Some game descriptions don't have a picture while some have a whole page for a...
I used them for a long time.
The first PC we had was a Pentium III with 20GB HDD around '98-'99 which didn't had a CD burner in the beginning. At some point my dad did the first reinstall and a couple of 1,44MB floppy disks was the only medium...

I picked up this book "1001 Video Games You Must Play Before You Die" today :)
It seems like I only played 52 games from the list  And that's including the games I played only for short times in game museums/expos and...
