PS1/2 PAL PS2 with modchip forcing NTSC PS1 games to PAL

Oh, I'm not touching it. It's been running just fine for 19 years, so I can live with having to press Triangle on boot to play specifically NTSC PS1 games. Getting those to work was hard and required a bit of creativity, but now it's absolutely fine. Everything else works pretty well. I've been...

PS1/2 PAL PS2 with modchip forcing NTSC PS1 games to PAL

Hi! I have a Fat PAL PS2 (SCPH-50004). I've been using FreeMCBoot on an original 8 MB memory card with an MX4SIO to load games in OPL. It also has an unknown modchip, installed by a store about 19 years ago. From its behavior, I assume it's a Messiah 2 or one of its clones. By itself, it runs...

PS1/2 PAL PS2 with modchip forcing NTSC PS1 games to PAL

Update for anyone interested: the only way I got this to work was by installing FreeMCBoot and having PS1VModeNeg assigned to a hotkey, so that I can boot with the disc inside by holding Power for a couple of seconds to switch the chip to PS1/DVD-Video mode and still manage to use PS2 homebrew.

Hardware Misc PS1/2 Unknown Modchip and Mechapwn Question

I haven't looked too much into Mechapwn, but regarding the PS1 game issue, try booting from standby with the PS1 game inserted and by holding down the Power button until after the Eject button lights up

PS1/2 PAL PS2 with modchip forcing NTSC PS1 games to PAL

Hi! I have an old SCPH-50004 (silver fat PAL) PS2 that currently has an unknown modchip. It was supposed to be a Crystal chip, according to the modder who installed it back in 2005, but its configuration/update discs won't boot, and its behavior matches what I've seen in the Messiah 2...

Out of the PS2 scene for more than a decade, jumping back in

Exactly. Browse the card and run ELF files from there (ELF and ISO would be ideal, like, say, Swiss on the GameCube, which loads ISO and DOL directly, but I can live with having to launch an ISO loader such as OPL first).

Out of the PS2 scene for more than a decade, jumping back in

Yeah, that was the idea: leave the boot DVD in there and always boot to a utility that would let me launch other homebrew from the SD card (including OPL for games, of course, but also the PS1VModeNeg utility that was mentioned earlier, for example). If there's a version of wLaunchELF or a...

Out of the PS2 scene for more than a decade, jumping back in

Yes. The only button combination that worked was the PS1 mode switch for Messiah 2 chips, so I'm going to assume that's what I have. Sure, if I can get this to work properly and I'm satisfied with the result, I might order another microSD card instead of sharing my GC2SD one. I'm still trying...

Out of the PS2 scene for more than a decade, jumping back in

Nice! I'll have to see if it overrides the hardmod, though. I have a boot disc that supposedly allows me to force PS1 video modes, but it hasn't worked for me

Out of the PS2 scene for more than a decade, jumping back in

After gathering more info, from what does work on my PS2 (holding the power button for a bit longer to play PS1 or DVD-Video backups), it seems that my modchip is a "Messiah 2". I can't find any information regarding PS1 video modes for this one. Does anyone know whether I can force my PAL PS2...

I have (to no avail). The instructions aren't exactly clear (turn on the PS2 by pressing reset 3 times or turn it on, then press 3 times?), but nothing seems to work?

That's precisely why I'm not sure. I burned the boot manager to a CD, as well as update discs, and got a black screen

I recently got an MX4SIO, since I liked the...

Hardware Misc Is it possible to overclock a TN new 3ds display?

Not catching fire, but having an image burned in (as in seeing a ghost of that image regardless of what's displaying now), I think.

Hardware Misc Is it possible to overclock a TN new 3ds display?

Actually, no. @Shadow#1 and @ital, monitor overclocking is a thing. Making a 60 Hz display run at 75 Hz, for example, is commonly doable. And, as @XRTerra says, 3DS consoles with a TN display would probably have an easier time handling that than those with an IPS display. And overclocking the...
