I tried using NeoGamma and no luck. I checked the error online and basically found out any wii made after 2009 has a drive that cannot read burnt copies of games... I just got this in 2013, heh. Ehh, I just ordered a usb hdd online. Much easier. Thanks for the help.

You wouldn't need to start fresh, as long as you get the .sav file. Also, I do think the instant message code messes with patched roms. Why not just use the speed up hot key? It's under hotkey config.
The part about the sprites becoming all weird is a glitch in DeSmuME. It happens even when playing the original HeartGold. As for the save state issue, Have you tried using another HeartGold rom and patching it? You could save in-game, create the second Sacred Gold ROM and use the previous save...
