When nintendo life made that splatoon legends video it got me wondering could splatoon work on a 3ds? Im not sure about the o3ds but the new 3ds might be able to handle a splatoon 3ds homebrew port.

With enough work put into one, maybe? It certainly wouldn't be easy to say the least. I believe the new 3ds could "handle" some sort of homebrew version of Splatoon, but you'd essentially have to recreate the game from the ground up. I wouldn't count on it happening soon or ever

I mean Smash 3DS is a feat in itself. It could be done but yeah, it would need it's own specific stages. If the Switch was slow to start I could have seen a 3DS version coming but now it doesnt look so or it would have been announced already.

The 3DS could definitely handle it, but I doubt anybody is going to take the time to make it happen. I'm kinda surprised Nintendo didn't make one for 3DS, but now that the Switch version has done so well I'm sure they won't look back and make one for 3DS.

The question is, if a Splatoon game was made on 3DS, what would it be like?

Smash Bros. on 3DS is pretty impressive, and I don't think it would be terribly difficult on Nintendo's part to take apart that engine, replace the characters with Inklings, and add the different paint weapons. It would effectively be Splatoon, with a side-scrolling view.

They could make a Splatoon game with a top-down view, I'd imagine it would look a lot like Bomberman, but you'd spray paint instead of dropping bombs.

And finally, could they recreate Splatoon as we currently know it on 3DS? If it was Nintendo handling the project, I'm sure they could. There are several good first person shooters available on 3DS (Ironfall: Invasion is the most impressive to me, amazing graphics, feels almost like you're playing on a console). Adding mechanics to an FPS engine to make it play like Splatoon wouldn't be too hard for a company like Nintendo to pull off.

Of course, like I said, I doubt any of this is coming. But the possibility certainly is there.

You can play the nes Splatoon Homebrew or you could ask the person who made Splatoon 64 in unity to release the source code so you could port it to 3ds. Otherwise, there won't be a homebrew'd for what you're expecting. If you're just speculating, this isn't really the forum to do that. That would be for 3ds games and content.

Well neither would be very good options since they both require to players to be enjoyable. is there a way i could make my own splatoon? i'm not very used to programming for the 3ds.

You can sign up to be a Nintendo developer on nintendo's website. This will net you the unity sdk, allowing you to make games easily with unity and quickly port then to the 3ds. Of course it would be illegal to publicly distribute the finished product. Otherwise, it would be extremlely difficult to the point where you would have to basically code and engine from scratch.

The Chromebook is the most locked down piece of garbage ever invented. You can't run ANYTHING other than Chrome (or Android Apps if available) without having it run a real Linux distribution.

I mean - Although the 3DS hardware is very limited, seeing they got to fit Treasure Toad, Xenoblade Chronicles and even Monster Hunter in decent framerates (not sure about how treasue toad runs, since it's not released, but i'd except at least 25-30 FPS) I could see very well someone fitting Splatoon into the 3DS. And it's a really great idea too, but i really doubt Nintendo would do it at this point, neither would anyone try to work it as a homebrew title. The idea and capabilities are still all over the table though. I'd love to see such thing as Splatoon (even if it's downgraded to the core) on something so small like the 3DS.

Welll the closest we have to splatoon is "tecnicaly" is the game called "the blob" that you are a little color ball that paints everything . And this game was for the old DS ... So tecnicaly splatoon could be built for the 3ds i guess

There is some gameplay

Homebrew, god no, but if Nintendo wanted to, I could totally imagine an official Splatoon port or spinoff working on new 3DS.

The Angry Birds Star Wars 3DS game has a Lua engine, so I might attempt to replicate the 8-bit one provided by the OP in Lua

EDIT: Might I add a good and 60 FPS Lua engine. Idk about the homebrew Lua engine, but I'd also rather have a CIA than a 3DSX

Honestly considering that Nintendo still does not plan to stop support for 3DS and we have proper releases already planned for start of 2019 i would not be surprised if we get some Splatoon side game. I can't imagine tho porting it 1-to-1, Both Wii U and Switch have fairy different controls than 3DS and port like this would be sloppy at best and completely unplayable at worst.
