I got that PC without a hard drive or CPU, so it's not useable. I don't care, there's 8 Gb ram in there which is really neat. Haven't looked at the other components yet.

I'd like to build a second PC for programming work sometime. I only have a small and slow laptop with Win 7 and super old Archlinux right now. I need something a little faster for programming, this laptop is annoying sometimes.

I like CRT's because I grew up with one. Technically they have a lower latency than do LCD's, and maybe slightly better colors, but it comes down to preference.

I didn't know you were into programming though! Neat, what is it you do?

Just some C# stuff with Visual Studio. I also know some Java and Visual Basic and Pascal (TurboDelphi) from my student days, but it's all a little rusty. C# has become my go to language. In my current job I work on a time tracking software, things like that.

It started as a hobby when I was into modding games and learned the scripting language of an RPG from my childhood. And now it's my job. ;)

That's really cool! My dad used to do all the computer work for sonic, and he wrote some software for keeping track of profits. On top of being a manager and making sure people did their job too

I also did some webdesign for other people, but I don't enjoy it that much. A lot of pixel shifting to get objects to align correctly, I'm not good at designing things, I guess. ;)

Mobile optimization for websites that weren't build with that in mind is also a necessary evil.

Actually, since I started doing it for a living I've spent less time on hobby work, I'm sorry to say.

Maybe I should get back into it. I should try doing something constructive again.

I spend most of my free time researching folk songs and early music recordings nowadays...

Balladry from the British Isles, mostly. I love poems and dramatic stories told as songs. ;)

Over many years I've assembled a large collection of field recodings of folk songs and ballads from England, Scotland, Ireland, USA, Canada and Australia, all categorized and documented.

It's so fascinating to me, hearing people sing songs they learned from family and friends, some of them go back several hundred years, I've traced them as far back as I could.

It's like a time machine into earlier times. Riddles, supernatural stories, traditional tunes are so unlike modern music. It fascinates me. ;)

And you have hundreds of variations of the same basic story or tune, it's a bottomless barrel, really.

I'm sorry for writing so much. I didn't mean to bore you with this. I always get excited when I get to talk about these things. ;p

It's that bit of autism in me again. I just love to compare things, that's what drew me to folk music.

Well that, and the clever use of words, rhymes and ancient melodies. ;)

I also know hundreds of songs and tunes by memory, and I love to sing them myself.

I don't think of myself as a good singer, though. I wouldn't sing in public. ;)

No no! You don't write too much at all, I was messing with something. I really would like to hear more, why don't you pm me? Just click on my picture and press send pm, and I'll be there. I'm going to get up and do some things for now, but later, in a few hours I'll be around again. Feel free to talk about anything you want to.

I'll try not to do that again. When the thoughts start flowing it's hard for me to stop writing. It flows like a river and I jump from one thing to the next one.

I didn't mean to scare the cat away! ;-)

I was lonely before I came here, and though I can safely say I don't feel half as lonely as I was, I still love to talk with people.

Thank you. You're really, really nice. I'm glad I decided to join this forum. Little things, even if it's just sharing and enjoying cat and dog pics with someone else make me happy. I'm a bit of a loner, too.

Most people irl I just can't connect with because of my unusual interests (videogames and folk and cats and programming and computer stuff) and I'm also really shy when it comes to approaching others.
