Why is pre-ordering *digital* items even a thing? It's not like the storefront can "run out" of digital items, so there's no logical reason for pre-orders to exist on digital platforms - except for the storefront owner using hype to sell products they don't yet have and which quality is unknown...

Pre-ordering physical items does make sense, because at least then scarcity is a realistic issue - just look at PS5s and amiibos and stuff. But digitally? No.
