> I like convenience but also simple and effective UI
> Linux gives me that customizability so that's a good choice
> I don't enjoy tinkering...
> This is not for me.

Reality:
Guy enjoys and prefers his Linux distro even though he does not want to tinker, his thought process was right, but he was wrong.

Take this for example, it just boils down to whether you enjoy the end result, focusing on factors gets you nowhere in the end, cause in the end we're all willing to sacrifice something objectively better in exchange for something that gives you happiness. I like MIUI and Windows 11, but I also value performance and reliability at the top of my list. I still prefer them.

OS is about UI, because that's what you deal with, even when modifying core components, there is a UI. Is it enjoyable for you? That's the key factor. "Thank you for coming to my TED talk™".

Can't agree with that.
I switched to openSUSE (using KDE) back in 2006 because MS denied Windows XP activation of a valid license. It was hard and not enjoyable. Choosing a Linux wasn't about performance, usability, reliability or UI. It was a necessity and a conscious decision for preferring open source software from that moment on.

Stayed on openSUSE for the main computer since. Now I'm used to it and it simply works. Using something else, even another Linux distro, is hard. I don't want to invest much time into tinkering with important computers: They shall just work! Even the Raspi running Debian based distro feels awkward (and I only use it via SSH), but it provides DHCP/DNS. I can’t even imagine using Windows again.
