If you're new, Linux Mint all the way. Stable, good looking and based on Ubuntu.
If you're moderate, why not try something like PopOS or even Manjaro.
If you feel you wanna go balls to the wall, EndeavourOS, Garuda or if you really feel up to it, Arch.

I'll probably try mint, I used etcher to write a batocera .img file now I can't shred ext4 at all which I figured would be a hassle hoping fdisk is my last resort the card reads fine but can't reformat at all with aoemi or minipart

Yeah I'm hoping something reformats it etcher probably automatically made the img file ext4 now it keeps acting like it'll format then refreshes back to normal

Ye to SD card for batocera a OTA update went wonky says it's formatted in sda2 ext4 kde manager won't ever fix it

Got a Windows machine? If so run Rufus and it will fix all for you

EDIT: Or just use Ventoy to make a bootable USB were you can select multiple isos

It's a big difference running VM vs Bare metal.
