Even without knowing the actual design of the original you could have spotted the fake. The picture from rectangular cover does not fit on circle. Left side is a grey stripe poorly covering the missing part.
Also: I told you it was more than one CD… but the copy has no number.

But: Opposed to an ISO file, this colorful CD will actually start up the game!

Then you say that an iso wouldn't start the game, maybe because it's protected? Ever heard of Daemon Tool, the passepartout of nineties piracy, which emulated the presence of a real CD?

A CD emulator can't do anything here with a standard ISO (which does not store density/geometry information).

Unfortunately preservation of PC games is more or less non-existent. Mostly illegal copies are
* Unavailable → for obscure games
* Useless (standard ISO without copy protection information)
* Cracked (playable, but not unaltered in the sense of true preservation)

Okay.
Riding the bike is not relaxing and recovering. It is either endurance sport (with the possible side effect of feeling high like on drugs) or buying groceries. But, yes I know where to go to be away from traffic. I'm not far away from my previous location and know pretty much every corner around.

Why do you say that in that case DT doesn't work? All the games I've tried in the past that required the original CD in the drive to play, worked without exception by mounting the iso in the virtual drive with all options turned on.

Of course DT will start the game – if you provide geometry/density data, which a simple ISO image does not.

Proper backup CD-R

Normally written CD-R – this is what an ISO will deliver.

Comparison legit CD (red), good backup (green), normal CD-R (yellow). Heavy zoom

Depending on the protection CCD/IMG/SUB might do the trick (not here)
Else MDF/MDS or MDX (the latter is native Daemon Tools format)
Blindwrite Images will also work (various extensions)

When I said iso I meant the generic term (includes .bin/.cue, ccd/img/sub, .mdf/.mds, .iso etc) , not the specific .iso format.

It is hot here again after a few weeks of better weather. Riding the bike or jogging are only possible very early in the morning. Right now outside feels like an oven. Even mowing the small lawn became a hassle today.
