This is the worst thing about piracy, some awkward people who REALLY be like "haha lol you spent money in games? Haha i get them for free haha you dumb"

Like... WHY they like to announce it to the world?

I just wished that we can go to the old roots where the community is secretive and scary and hidden, while we just say it whenever we want and that's what causes these companies to strike them down.

Nintendo still knew about things back then. In the "underground" Wii era, a GBAtemp user was sued for a million dollars for uploading Mario Galaxy and leaking it pre-release. Heck, in the DS era all it took was a $10 China-shipped little chip, no user effort required to load ROMs, on top of the DS being one of the most successful consoles ever.

People did say things out loud, people did things for clout. Better that these things are more well known in this day and age as to give people a better foot in the door into messing around with their tech

I did NOT know that Galaxy was leaked prior to release. All i knew about was the issue with SMBWII. And it was on this site too? Damn

I really wished that these companies can understand the point as to why we emulate these tools and whatnot.

Both Galaxy and Wii leaked dramatically early IIRC. Both leakers ended up slapped by lawsuits as well, if memory serves. Maybe the GBAtemp guy was the NSMB Wii guy, and Galaxy was just some rando, but both leaked and both got sued, for sure. I think Galaxy even had like some really crummy DRM to lock when played on modded Wiis.

It's very interesting to see the history of stuff like this tbh. If someone gotten sued here, then why wasn't this site taken down the time around it happened?

It's a difficult topic. Nintendo has to take a hard stance against these "circumvention" devices, otherwise no one would be afraid. Striking fear is their goal, and suing kids for millions of dollars is effective. They're overreaching, but it makes sense from their perspective. I just don't bother with Nintendo games anymore because the Switch runs them so poorly

My main issue is: why bother emulating devices that are still getting sold when you can at least wait until the services are discontinued? It just puts the people behind the emulation on a higher risk.

I know that emulation in general is a eternal thing but, I still get scared about the future y'know

I wouldn't let it be too scared. Besides, even if many emulators were to get taken down, there will still be some that will rise up that age new and will work the same again. I bet that there's even private ones that people work on.

I don't remember anybody being sued over Super Mario Galaxy. It was indeed leaked, but it was unplayable at first due to new anti piracy measures.

The original question - those games being worth US$60 (presumably US)?
Yeah, maybe if the Luigi's Mansion 2 remaster is noticeably improved over the 3DS original; TTYD, though...I see no value in that game whatsoever. It's a far cry from Super Paper Mario, that's for sure.

And "pre-order"? It's not like these are special editions or something, with added physical components like an art book or amiibo (e.g. Twilight Princess HD, bundled with Wolf Link amiibo), so why would anyone pre-order basic games the stores aren't gonna run out of?

Paper Mario is easily worth $60, it appears to be a high effort remaster and have you seen how much that game goes for used on GC?
Couldn't care less about Luigi's Mansion.

I haven't seen - because running it on Dolphin is easier in all regards. Doesn't help improve the lacklustre gameplay or godawful Peach segments any, though.
I find Luigi's Mansion 2 HD a much more interesting premise, seeing how it'll play on the Switch, and LM3 is a fantastic game.

Despite how much I loved Luigi's mansion, I have never played Dark Moon at all. That one never really amazed me compared to and 1
