You're free to be annoyed or disappointed. We're a fairly open forum with a large userbase, much of which are interested in SXOS. Whether they're right or wrong to be it isn't our place to say. If you have any ideas for better future giveaways or partnerships feel free to post them in site suggestions and they could be considered in future.

Personally I don't like these kinds of teams. They steal from the community and attempt to hide it by hiding behind a closed-source wall. Not to mention their last update flat out mock the community and was just plain insulting.

The "community" is rather shallow. So, it works.

They are still stealing code, there's no excusing that. These teams are a slow cancer on the community.

I can't believe the SX individually murdered every switch hacker that ever existed and destroyed the scene. If anything the SX has brought more attention to the hacking scene than anything else. The only thing that really hurts the scene is people bickering over different sides like it's a hill to die on. Yeah, SX team is scummy, but it's not like they drove a stake through the hacking scene and made it die.

Chary, stop it. You're thinking rationally, and that's dangerous.

I just hate teams like these and the risks of trusting closed sourced software from scummy teams. Gateway did the same thing and the second they started to lag, they went downhill.

Which being closed sourced meant that they dragged their user base down with them. I wouldn't be shocked to see the same happen to the Switch scene

@Chary - You are putting words in my mouth. I never said anything that extreme. Don't strawman me please. Team Xecuter hurts the scene by driving away developers (new and old), because why bother doing things for folks if they gladly support horrible groups that don't give a shit about anything but the result.

Yes there are always peeps that stay around, but this doesn't promote an open or a welcoming scene, which is what I think the scene should try and strife to be. TX goes against that entire concept by stealing the source code of Atmosphere.

Devs have always had it hard. This isn't new. If anything, competition is good, because it makes the opposing side need to think creatively as to what they can do to prove they're the better devs.

Gateway supposedly drove devs off, but in the end, they fell apart because other devs managed a much better end result for the user. I never put any words in your mouth, I merely was being sarcastic over the original statement, so please don't jump to conclusions there.

@Chary - I agree with competition being good, but in this case, one side has taken what the other has done, made a few adjustments to it and are passing it off as their own work, trying to claim victory. That isn't how that works, and as a developer, you are pretty much competing with your own product at that point, which is just silly and shouldn't even be a thing in the first place.

I don't know, the devs seem pretty confident here. Of course, they're wasting time on their side project out of petty reason. So, neither side is doing much for the betterment of the scene as a whole. It's easy to argue moral standing with such a strong bias. At the end of the day? It's still progress.

@Memoir - I still kinda want to know what "strong bias" you think I have outside of me giving a fuck about Free Software. If this would have been done by members of ReSwitched (which I can only assume you are referring to), you would be assured I'd react just as strongly against them.

And it isn't progress. Team Xecuters work does not contribute to progress in the scene as a whole, as it is not Free Software.

Secondly, I've been following the Atmosphere GitHub repo over the past week, and it's issue tracker appears to be rather active (with issues and planned features being added by the developers), meaning that the project is by no means dead in the water.

They are delivering a product, not progress. By being closed source the community is dependent on them and that's what harms the community. They aren't helping the community move forward with their product.

It's really annoying seeing this community so divided just from one product. We're supposed to work together for the betterment of the scene and make it one of the best devices to hack, but all I'm seeing is the Switch's potential being washed away by a divisive scene. I suppose the 3DS scene was just a hint as to what would happen with the Switch scene.

I'm completely against paid hacks, but if someone's gonna throw a free copy at me, I might as well enter.

@smileyhead - I think that is the big misconception here. It's not so much that they release paid work, it's that they release paid work while not obliging the legal licenses (and these hold up in court, MS in particular has had a court case based on the GPL) of the work they used as a base. Hell, the GPL permits you to comercially sell your work.
