Wot wot? Oh, tally ho, chip chap, right roight, and all that. Well, in the Stirkers pack, there's the stapping lass-of-all-trades, and dragon tits, the tank. Without delving too deeply into each of their mechanics, the girl seems like the one the game is most closely build around, in a gameplay sense.

She uses the most of her toolkit at a frequent pace, has decent mobility, can reach most areas of a stage to get goodies, and doesn't rely too heavily upon the concept of a pre-baked combo.

The tank, on the other hand, gets almost the entirety of his mileage out of his charge attack (at least, from what little I've played so far) and has very low mobility, meaning he can reach the fewest treasures in a stage. His endlag is significant to attacks, making him much more vulnerable in general, and his damage output doesn't reflect his attacks' commitment.

In fact, he's the character that suffers the most from "missed" attacks, where your attack technically "hits" the enemy, but has a random chance to deal one damage. It cuts his overall DPS even further, and makes it so that the "high reward" part feels missing from the concept of "high risk, high reward".

Moreover, there are certain attacks which seem to require his shield ability to dodge/counter (one boss's flame attack comes to mind =3=), but the issue is that the shield draws from a limited resource in the form of a gauge. Have none left, and you take a forced hit, making him quite frustrating.

He's not a very good character, at least starting out, functioning almost entirely a support character for multiplayer while others collect items and deal damage, but feeling like a questionable pick even in those situations. I'll say that the girl in this pack is about the only character the game feels even remotely balanced around, by far, and it's not even that well balanced around her.

Now, in the other DLC pack of which I cannot recall the name, you're given sexylegs hermes the ninja, and wee magic lass. The magic girl has the most unique concept by far, with a mechanic in which you rapidly input commands to create and store spells mid-battle, trying to build them up and release them before they disappear, but she also suffers a bit of the "more risk than she's worth" syndrome.

At least in the beginning, she struggles to put out the DPS of the others, and her healing is moderate at best.

Some of her attacks have shockingly little benefit for how much effort they take to cast as well, her wind+multi-hit spell in particular coming to mind, which has abysmal range, terrible damage, and barely any knockback, yet which inexplicably is one of the more time-intensive spells to cast early-game.

It ends up making the character feel railroaded into repeating the same few attacks which feel the most viable, which was disappointing.

Sexy legs mcgee, on the other hand... look, I'll be honest, he's broken. He has the absolute highest mobility of all of them, has a double jump (which makes him the only character capable of dodging some few attacks, which is on its own pretty broken game design)

, and his lock-on mechanic means that spacing around an enemy to attack just isn't a thing, since locking on makes melee attacks hit your target from ANY DISTANCE.

That, and he has functionally infinite gauge, replenishing more from a simple combo than it takes to lock on in the first place. He also gets i-frames on his lock-on dash, which is... crazy beans.

Playing as him is boring, both because there's so little thinking you need to do as a player in order to utilize him correctly, and because his meta is utterly singular, meaning lots of repetition. Lock on, melee combo, repeat. It becomes a chore very quickly.

This is just coming from what little I've played so far with Luna on stream, however. I've yet to do a deep dive into the game on my own, so these are really just first impressions. Fyi, though, both of us got very fed up with the game very quickly as things progressed, and I definitely do not consider it a well-designed game.

I can see people squeezing *some* fun from some of its more interesting elements, but any small satisfaction will come at the cost of choking down a lot of unpleasantness. Maybe you'll find it worth it, though, it's certainly possible.

If you want to see the progression of our moods as we progressively figured out the game, we do have the stream archived here: https://youtu.be/d-ttdrk5Nnc Hopefully it gives you a better idea of if the game's right for you.

Oh, right, and for which pack I'd suggest, go with Strikers for the girl. That's it, really. :\

Wish they would let us play the NCAA football 14 on newer xbox, its one of the only games I love and own on disc still, that is not back compatible, bs.

@BigOnYa My dad recently bought a spare Series X off of me, got game pass, and saw Madden '24 on Game Pass, decided to try it out.

@K3Nv2 He was looking into consoles for his house anyway (for my younger siblings and himself) and I had a spare XSX and Switch I ended up selling him at pretty steep cuts. I would just give them to him, but I did buy them with the intent to sell them... and college is super expensive.
