I am looking for a homebrew software that allows the dsi to record videos onto the flashcard's microSD card. It needs to support quite long videos with audio as well. This is because I am going on an expedition and need to record footage for it, I really don't want to have to bring a separate camera. It does not need to support both cameras, but ideally film at the same quality as images do. Is there an existing homebrew compatible with R4i SDHC that does this?

Because I really don't want to bring a separate camera to record video. I know VGA video is bad but I prefer to save space and weight by not bringing a camera, and using the dsi camera. Googling shows only videos on how to record dsi gameplay, not record video captured on the dsi

As far as I am aware the r4i is a DS mode flash cart so never had access to the cameras. I suppose there is DSi homebrew but it is very undeveloped.
Short version. Not going to happen.

What about something in the dashcam/action camera world? Prices there for things that do not say Gopro or Sony are crazy low these days. They support nice 1080p H264 more often than not, charge off USB, can have a crude night vision funciton, have acceptable lenses and sensors, nice mounting options, possibly waterproof cases (some of the SJcam stuff) and weigh basically nothing.
