The hackers and crackers behind the scenes

This thread is for our fellow nerds and geeks behind the scenes who bring us all these awesome ways to hack and modify our game consoles and game systems. To ChickHEN, Bannerbomb, and Free MCBoot. To rom hackers, fan translators, and emulator developers. To the ones who release patches for us to...

    Hacking No text or icons

http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/2323/20110423133305.jpg I've formatted my SD card, I've reinstalled AKAIO. No luck. It started doing this yesterday. Haven't changed anything before then, and it was working fine about last week or so. I've had my Acekard since September 2009, so I'm wondering...

Hardware Possible way of dumping 3DS games?

Since the R4 and SuperCard DS2 work on the 3DS (for now), do you think we could use this same method to dump 3DS games? http://gbatemp.net/t94197-dump-your-own-ds-games And if so, what do you think the filename extension should be?

List of games you want to play before you die.

There are many games out there. I myself have read about many really good games that i have wanted to play, but never had the chance to because I've either been to busy, don't have the console for it, or am in the middle of other games. So I made myself a list of games I want to play. I just...

    Gaming Final Fantasy IV Popstation?

I played through Final Fantasy V and VI on my PSP just recently, and I've been wanting to play Final Fantasy IV. The load times for the Anthology games weren't as bad as people made it out to be, likely because I was playing from a memory stick instead of a disk. They were still there, but I got...

PS1/2 Best brand and speed for burning DVD backups

I hear that using crappy brands can damage the PS2 laser, so I was wondering what the best brand out there is. I hear good things about Verbatim, and the FAQ says to burn at 2.4x speed, but I wanna know your thoughts.

How long does it normally take a game to be dumped?

Normally I see games online maybe a day or two before release date. The earliest I've seen is a week or so before it hits shelves. How do the pirates normally get their games early, and what is the earliest a game has been dumped? Curious because Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep is coming out in...

    Gaming ChickHEN Mod

A few weeks ago I found an alternative to the regular ChickHEN. With the original ChickHEN, you would go maybe 10, 20, or even 100 tries without getting anywhere. With this MOD, which I did not make, there are different colored pictures that trigger the exploit...

Hacking Friend codes and Flash Carts

How do friend codes work in DS games? Is the code held in the rom data or on your DS? I have an official Final Fantasy III DS game cart and an Acekard with FF3 on it. Would I be able to transfer mail between my game cart and flash cart to unlock the Onion Knight?

    PS1/2 Best PCSX2 configuration

I have an AMD Athlon II Dual Core Processor, an ATI Radeon HD 4200 graphics card, and 3 GB of RAM. What are the best settings and plugins for playing (legal, store bought copies of) Final Fantasy X, X-2, and XII?

    Gaming Replacement PSP Screen

My friend's PSP screen broke, and I wanted to fix it for him in exchange for him letting me borrow it to play Final Fantasy I and II Anniversary Edition. I found one on Ebay and another on dealextreme, but I'm curious as to what brand is the best while still being the cheapest, as well as if...

Gaming Super Smash Bros Brawl "Masterpeices"

Is the rom data for the games held in the discs, or is a demo just downloaded from the Wii shop channel? If it's on the disc, is there any way to access the data for Fire Emblem and Earthbound on an American version of Brawl?

Emulation EZ-Flash Save on Visual Boy Advance

I was able to transfer my save files from my PC to my Acekard, but when putting them back on my computer into the right directories, the rom loads but as if there was no save file. The roms I'm using are the Fire Emblem games. The saves work on the EZ-Flash, and I change the save file name to...

    Hacking EZ-Flash 3in1

I am running AKAIO firmware 1.5, and my GBA games and saves are all in the same folder. My Fire Emblem 7 game already has a save and I wanna use it on my EZ-Flash. How do I use this save with my game? EDIT: The reason I asked was because my rom was named Fire Emblem 7 The Blazing Sword.gba and...

    Gaming Fire Emblem 7 glitch

    Hacking GBA

Whenever I load my Final Fantasy V game from the GBA slot from the Acekard menu, there is a cool little "GameBoy Advance" logo at the bottom. Is this the only difference it has from loading a GBA game from the DS menu?

Homebrew Fire Emblem 4 on Snes9x GX

On the new version of Snes9x GX (on Wii), just updated yesterday), Fire Emblem 4's music runs a bit faster than normal. It's not blatantly obvious, but it is indeed noticeable. I have noticed this with other games, but not as much as on FE4. Not sure if it's just the sound that's sped up, or...

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

    but that's a long shot

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

  • cearp @ cearp:
@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
