I've been out of the 3ds CFW scene since about 2016. Back then we were using Emunands to stay up to date. From what I've read I take it that is not the case anymore. Hacking Running older Firmware on Cakes EmuNAND
I have a N3ds running Sysnand 9.2. I have setup multiboot EmuNAND and would like to be able to run 3ds FW 4.4 or 5.0 in EmuNAND. Hacking Gateway 3ds Launcher hangs on 9.2
So I followed this guide https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki and everything is running great. The only thing I did differently is I kept emunand so my sysnand would remain on 9.2.0-20u. Well, from what I've heard from my parents, he had a seizure last night, perhaps an epileptic episode, fucking died, had a near death experience, my dad called the paramedics, they showed up, took him to the hospital, and he woke up covered in tubes, and started complaining.
