Tutorial How to translate Japanese games without speaking a word!

Time to bump this thread. Too bad it's only visible in the 3DS subforum. This guide got so rich in tools, that it might look intimidating for beginners. So let me give a short summary of what I think are the most important things to start: 1. Extracting the script out of the game in text form...

ROM Hack Summon Night X ~Tears Crown~ Translation

I wanted to bump this thread before to thank the translator and to bring more attention to it, as I think this is a pretty cool game. I got distracted with other stuff and haven't finished playing it yet, but this game is definitely playable on melonDS (at least up to chapter 11 out of ~18). I...

[Release] Luminous Arc 3 English Patch

Not anytime soon, the changes so far are minor (mostly grammatical errors corrected here and there). I'll send you a PM.

[Release] Luminous Arc 3 English Patch

Machine translations are as good as you make them. The translation algorithms are getting better by the day. If you feed them with enough context, they will produce decent outcomes even for such tricky languages like Japanese. Of course, they aren't perfect and they will introduce plenty of...

I'm pleased to announce that the rom translation has been completed and we have started proofreading and beta-testing phase. Hopefully, the rom won't leak until it's fully polished. If we don't encounter any significant problems, you can expect Luminous Arc 3 English rom/patch release by the end...

Yes, when I wrote that I plan to "release a fully-translated rom", I really meant it. Actually, now I would have written that "we plan to release it", because without other people's work, the best I could do would be youtube videos with English subtitles or a translation guide. By "we" I mean a...

You've got it completely wrong, but I don't blame you, since that's how it might seem to someone who's not paying attention to everything that was happening around this translation for the last 2,5 years. To be honest, I'd rather keep the low profile and avoid dramas, but now I feel I need to...

Tutorial How to translate Japanese games without speaking a word!

Good post, I agree with pretty much everything written here, since I came up with the same/similar methods myself (and learned a lot in the process). I'm surprised you haven't mentioned DeepL in the Translation Tools section. https://www.deepl.com/translator I also use Screen Translator for...

@plasturion Thank you again! I'm completely new to rom modding, so your descriptions help a lot. @DrYoshi I don't know about others, but I was thinking about it and I'm not very convinced, because: 1. finishing my LA3 translation will probably take me at least a year more, considering the...

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM

  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
