At the moment, I'm running ninjhax2.6 on my N3DS running 10.7.0-32 U. I've been looking at installing A9LH as I'm on the (currently) latest downgradeable system version. However, a few things that are stopping me.

First, I'm really scared that I'll softbrick my system downgrading sysNAND to 9.2 and have to recover to 11.0 (or worse, hardbrick).
Secondly, I have network access via ctr-httpwn at the moment, so I'm not really losing out on network features.
Also, I use a Mac (MacBook Air, El Captian 10.11.5 if anyone actually cares) so that makes using the .bat file to inject FBI to H&S nearly impossible. (I'm sure that there are workarounds, just none that I know of at the moment.) EDIT: Never mind this step anymore, guide now includes go.sh!
Finally, the only things I really use Homebrew for at the moment is ACNL save editor (save_manager and ftbrony) and custom themes (well, and ctr-httpwn) and while installing .cia files, along with 100% boot rate and being on the latest version sounds nice, I just don't know if it's worth the risk for someone like me.

The reason why I was thinking about it was because ninjhax hasn't had any real progress on 11.0 (not a huge problem as ctr-httpwn, y' know), I don't have any interest with freakyhax, but if ctr-httpwn's servers get taken down for some reason, (not likely, but you never know) I'd lose out on Homebrew (as of now) or online access.

What do you guys (and gals) think, and honestly, what's the risk of downgrading to 9.2, and any other features I'm missing? Oh, and always, if you have any questions about my situation, feel free to ask!

Thanks,
Ethan

If you follow this guide (https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki) with caution, bricks of any kind are extremely rare, so don't worry about that. The only thing I'd do before I start would be to make sure I could use those .bat files with no problem. So get that sorted and you're ready to go :)
I believe I read something about Ambassador, DSi Ware, and systems that have done a transfer (all of which check mine) causing softbricks, but hadn't actually seen any proof of that. Have you heard about that? I REALLY don't want to format as I have over 3000 hours on this system (2000 which a day one ACNL file). I'll look around about that bat file, and thanks for the info! That's the guide I was planning on using! So, you think it'd be worth it to do it?

Thanks!

Just read through the go.bat part of the guide again (part 4, step 13) and it actually said
"Double click go.bat (or execute go.sh with Terminal on Linux / Mac)" and found that under the Universal Inject folder, so guess we're all good! :)

I think there is proof that someone has soft bricked from the ambassador titles being on their ds, and I personally did not softbrick from having the four swords dsi game on my o3ds, but that was back in 10.3. I have not heard about a brick from system transfers though. The best thing to do would be to backup all your save files, and do a system format before you downgrade. If you have a hardmod, you can just make a nand backup and restore it to emunand after you are on 9.x

Nope, I have not heard about that before.. As far as the formatting goes, I would definitely go for it under any cost, as what I did hear about is people softbricking because of not doing so. I read somewhere that apparently, if you do everything correctly, you'll have all the files that you previously had on the system after the process is done. Though, I lost my VC Pokemon Yellow save file by thinking it will also keep the saves, so back them up before doing anything. As for it being worth it or not, I just had to do it because of my constant thrive for perfection haha. I could not live with myself if I knew there was something better out there to which I have access to and not getting it. Good luck!

Sorry for the question, but what would be the best way to backup saves? Also, I really don't want to format, mainly cause of unrecoverable save data, such as Streetpass and Activity Log. What would be the chances of softbrick without format vs with doing format? Is it absolutely necessary, or just a precaution?

Thanks all!

I use savedatafiler and for now it has worked great without any problems encountered so far. As for the format, I just think it'd be really stupid if you bricked your system because of not formatting. It is a precaution but almost all the bricks I read about happened because of it.

Formatting is just a precaution, but is highly recommended. I can't really offer much advice because when I downgraded, we could just keep updating and trying again. Just use svdt or something to get valid backups of all your games saves (excluding twl ones). If you need backups of twl saves, you can probably find a tool somewhere, but idk if its possible with just homebrew... If you are afraid that your dsi apps will cause issues, you can always backup their saves with the built in save back up tool (somewhere in data management) and uninstall them.

Is savedatafiler a 3dsx HB app? (I'm not on CFW or anything.) I get what you're saying about formatting and softbricks but I really just don't want to lose all of that data.

Yeah, I guess when 10.7 was the latest FW, I just thought I'd be fine with ninjhax. (Fix is in the works apparently) What's the chance of me softbricking without formatting? Like is it really possible or just happens sometimes?

Its normally a slim chance, but soft bricks in the past were something that would just happen endlessly until you did a system format (this being the first thing anyone bothered to do I guess), although there wasn't really a correlation between the softbricks. If you do get very unlucky and brick though, you can probably get a hardmod and ask the hardmodder to setup 11.0 payloads on your cn cart (they probably won't refuse since it doesn't take much time to do, but don't expect them to do it).

    Thanks mate.

I used to drink alcohol fairly often. Never to the point of it being a problem, but like 2-3 beers with dinner each night, or a few cocktails or glasses of Scotch or something. Started smoking/vaping weed a lot a few years back which killed 90% of my interest in booze. Now I stopped smoking/vaping weed as much and just deal with life the boring way most of the time

I only drank alcohol once and it was by accident

Yeah, I'm addicted to smoking, sadly. It's very addictive but I wish I didn't start.

@Xdqwerty, No, but I've seen it on Vinesauce's stream.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@SylverReZ, that game is one of the reasons i met newgrounds bc the full versión of it is in that site

Spoke to Tom Fulp the other day, if he can find his old Newgrounds site content like the mini Flash animations from the 2000's that played on the portal.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
So far no response, but he did say that he'll find them. Wayback Machine doesn't have em.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@SylverReZ, atleast the 1999 versión of pico's school is avaliable (the difference between it, the 2006 versión and the 2016 versión is that the speed of the game depends of the speed of your computer and that it had the og soundtrack)
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, Another being Pico VS Bear, the original 1999 version before Jim Henson filed a DMCA takedown.

The 2006 versión was made when the flash portal was made

Many people thought it was lost, but was discovered that he hid it on the same page.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@SylverReZ, although the "secrets" system where the game was has been removed. Also pico vs uberkids had a netplay versión that was shutdown, although the swf file has been found
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, Nope. There are two download buttons on the same page, where you can download the original under a file called "bear.exe". "bear2.exe", however, is the updated game in a Flash projector. P.s. this was on the archived Pico page from 2000.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
