I don't know if there is a way to pass-through the WiFi card to the guest operating system with VirtualBox.

For testing purposes it should be enough to boot some life Linux from USB flash drive or DVD±R(W) (Ubuntu or some Ubuntu based distro is very easy to try).
================

Not all distros use the .deb (ian) packages, but it's not important here.

WEP isn't secure… one could include a MAC filter, but it is a moot point whether this is any helpful. I would rather deactivate the open or WEP network as soon as possible (only start the hotspot when needed)
I was using a mac filter during the wep days. it was a pita to individually set up each device in the router settings. I had over 20 of them iirc.

I'm connected to my ds using a hotspot on my phone. I'm trying to see if any pages load up. what's a very low security, no images, page?

wep is very unsecure. a hacker could probably crack yours in seconds. that's why it's no longer used.
The attacker would also have to be physically sitting outside your house and logging traffic over the air in order to exploit anything. If you have MAC filtering enabled, the attacker would also have to spoof his MAC and wait for your device to stop using the network so he could make his machine pose as your device. WEP fears are greatly overblown.

Anyway, if you don't want to mess with creating a hotspot on your computer, you can pick up an old Wi-Fi router and flash CFW on it to make a WEP network for your DS. Gargoyle and DD-WRT are common CFW options.

well, instead of getting into a fight, I just put you on my ignore list. I can't take this constant criticism when all I'm doing is trying to help.

I was able to connect to my phone via a hotspot. It was successful with mario kart. I tried opera (I deleted my save, since I couldn't remember my password), but I don't know if it's possible to connect to any websites due to certificates.

I'd just use a mobil hotspot via smartphone.

Or get a super cheap router configured to WEP for this express purpose.

Even back in Win7 days, it was super hard work getting the NWFC-USB-Stick to work

Edit: Or.. as gbatemp "suggested links" has to say. Do this:

You can use DsOrganize or Bunjallo for Website Tests.
If you have a compatible RamGBA cart & gbaslot-available ds
(If you want to use a M3CF/SD or Supercard as 'Ram' you need to patch Opera.

Hint: Nowadays web works terrible on any DS Webbrowser.

Webbrowser.. That reminds me of that "Gnirfleo" hoax haha

I think the problem is that it's https now, the search engine for yahoo, which apparently is what opera uses. here's my successful connection:

I forgot to mention that you need to change your wifi band to an ssid that is 2.4GHz or else the connection will fail.

If you get a router compatible with the FreshTomato or OpenWRT firmware you can create a WEP secured access point with that router, certainly on routers like the Asus RT-N16 anyway. Not sure if this will be the case for newer models.

I have a little TP-Link TL-WR703N running OpenWRT I just connect up if I need to get a DS online for something.
