I guess “la play” really caught on in hispanic communities lol

That's is because "Console" is femenine in spanish (La consola) so the complete name is "La consola de vídeo juegos PlayStation" (la play for short) or PlayStation video game console. therefore we call all consoles "la ..." believe me is strange to ear "La Xbox" but is technically correct.
