'Death or Glory', a deckbuilding game that blends fighting game mechanics, announces open beta for next month

Independent developers Distilled Gaming Company have announced that their upcoming game, Death or Glory, which blends fighting game mechanics, will launch in open beta next month.

Death or Glory works on a very unique turn system, where almost every attack can be reacted to, whether dodged or blocked. Each card uses a speed system, much like the frames of a fighting game, so a heavy attack will still hit over a small block. Managing your resources, including stamina, champion power, and cards in hand, is vital to surviving the arena.

Choose a fighter and venture through the fantasy realms and build the perfect champions deck in the roguelike adventure mode, which plays like a traditional roguelike deck builder (Slay the Spire, Wildfrost). With multiple maps on offer, there’s a whole roster of PvE content for champions to fight their way through.

Key features of Death or Glory include:
  • Five Classes with Five Unique Resource Systems - No two classes play alike. Spellslingers will accumulate Mana, whilst Monsters will Unleash power.
  • Character Decks - Every character has unique mechanics and befitting cards that can only be played by them. A Ninja will have nimble and fast cards whilst a lumbering Giant has powerful and heavy attacks.
  • Dynamic Turn Control - Both players share a turn. As soon as you counter your opponent's card, you seize the initiative and gain control of the battle.
  • Embark on an Adventure - The roguelike single-player mode will make players choose between multiple paths to take on a journey. Different choices will result in different rewards, and the playstyle of every champion will constantly adapt with every card rewarded.
  • Competitive Duels - Duel your friends in a death match to see who is the greater champion. Climb the ladder for Seasonal rewards and the taste of glory against your rivals.
  • Progress like a Champion - Fight with different champions to level them up and unlock new cards, skins and powerful PvE abilities.
An open beta will be available from Friday 1st September to Monday 4th September, where players can play two of the game classes, the roguelike mode, and the competitive PvP arena mode. Death or Glory will be released as a free-to-play game with cosmetic microtransactions towards the end of September via Steam Early Access.
