Hmm.. Interesting of you to bring this up. It's kinda absurd, that you have to pay such a large amount for something like this. Brazil among many South American countries have it rough partly due to the protectionism that the countries practice. I'm working (and studying) in the Mech Engineering business and it's actually more profitable to import parts, assemble and sell in the final destination compared to using the same people elsewhere. You ask how much more profitable? Depending on the product, easily 50% cheaper, sometimes even 100%. While it doesn't make the whole price, it's partly this and something else. Possibly the price will fall once the other markets get saturated. While I live in the EU area, Finland gets the short straw in pretty much everything in the same way the UK does. Except more than often we get it mostly even worse. Our VAT is at 24% at the present time and for some unknown reasons, we pay more for the PS4 compared to any other EU/EURO country. And our importer is Sony Europe/Finland. I've even contacted quite a few retailers and even Sony and they've all said that the prices paid by the Finnish subsidiaries are way more than the amount to make the 399e starting price possible. ps. I haven't ordered my PS4 from any Finnish retailer. A pity that Bluray is still area coded in some sense, which makes it kinda problematic to import a US console. Current exchange rates gives my PS4 bundle at $710 vs the $499 in the US. If I bought it from Finland, it'd go for $800+. Not near your rates, but getting there :P
Kinda silly. But cool I guess. Its like painting your 2by4 wood studs in a wall, before covering with drywall.

I heard a good one at the bar last night, made me think for sec. - "If you are cold, go stand in the corner, because corners are always 90 degrees."
