Or better yet, look for the xml in the header, and directly jump to its offset in the filedata.

Good suggestion. Went back to hactool, stole some of their code (as I don't need to the full blow app) and used the offset to speed things up. It's almost instant now.
Source code includes a note stating where hactool code starts and ends, so credits are due.

@adrifcastr I've created a c++ patcher (no need to unpack and repack). You can either compile it and distribute it together with your app or port the code to your favorite language.
Further optimizations would be to do a reverse search (as the XMLs appear to be packed towards the end) but it's fast enough form me as it is. Furthermore, it's open-source so people can grab it and improve it if they want.

Enjoy: https://gist.github.com/rdmrocha/6c74d8c238751f3e5a0aac3119dfc586

Anyway to get your patcher already compiled? I haven’t got a clue how to do it...thanks!

Does anyone know if this patch method works for updates and DLC requiring an update when I'm on 4.1? I get that tinfoil may not install updates or DLC, but I'm using Devmenu which works with any NSP file.

Read op. NSPatch can merge base games and Updates using hactool

I don't understand this tool. I tried this with Donkey Kong and Captain Toad, which both require afaik FW4. Than, after using this tool, it tells me, they are now playable on firmware 5.0.0? So does the games require FW5? Or how can i patch them to work with FW4?

I just used this as well and it increases the playable fw instead of reducing the playable fw
How do we make it reduce the fw exactly

Guys I'm on 4.0.1 and even if tell that's playable on 5.0 work on my firmware. I've tried Crash Bandicoot... Don't worry about the message... it works... just to be sure to be in the same page I'm using an old version of tinfoil that seem to be good... With the newer version, at least for me, wasn't working fine...

actually the keygen detection on 2.0 is fine as it is so it should work fine and accurate. also patching would be 90% faster if I wasn't to dumb to arbitrary read and write to binary files, but I'm working on it.

edit: don't use 2.1 myself being a dumbass forgot that I commented out the line that starts the patching. will be fixed, the next major release won't require extracting/repacking either

Tinfoil now supports ignoring the reqsysver so I'll get this locked up, Thanks though to those who used NSPatch!

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM

  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

Nor clothes 🤮 . Saves on time, soap, water and money having to wash them. :D
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
