I have a PS2 v4 with DMS3 chip.

It's very testy with media that I use.

For instance, I bought some Sony CD-R for it before and they all worked perfectly.
I got the same media a year later and none of them work.

I bought a stack of Ritek CDs a couple of years ago as they were supposed to be
the best for PS2, but none of them worked for my PS2, although for XBOX and PC they did. (maybe bad batch?)

So what's the best media these days for PS2? Still Ritek? Something else?
Thanks for any info.

The was a whole other thread on this a little while back with some good info and discussion:

As for media avoid overburning and writing faster than the disc is rated are a good start, best media however is going to be subjective.... a friend had some "tuff discs" which worked pretty well with the added bonus of the discs being near kid proof.

Thanks. But that thread is not quite the same. Two or three people mention they like using Ritek or Tayo, but that's about media speed (notice I posted in there myself ;>).

On a side note, the Sony discs I purchased that work show up as this in DVD Identifier:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD-R:SONY04D1]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disc & Book Type : [DVD-R] - [DVD-R]
Manufacturer Name : [Sony Recording Media Co.]
Manufacturer ID : [SONY04D1]
Blank Disc Capacity : [2,298,496 Sectors = 4.71 GB (4.38 GiB)]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[ DVD Identifier V5.0.1 - http://DVD.Identifier.CDfreaks.com ]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

and the ones that don't work:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD-R:SONY08D1]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disc & Book Type : [DVD-R] - [DVD-R]
Manufacturer Name : [Sony Recording Media Co.]
Manufacturer ID : [SONY08D1]
Blank Disc Capacity : [2,298,496 Sectors = 4.71 GB (4.38 GiB)]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[ DVD Identifier V5.0.1 - http://DVD.Identifier.CDfreaks.com ]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The 08D1 are 8x, and the 04D1 is 4x.

I wonder why the same discs (but higher speed rating) don't work at all as opposed to the older discs.
