I understand the cartoon, but to me it's all but recognizable. I don't "main" a character in a fighter game. Granted, I rarely play fighters to begin with, but even so I understand that they somewhat rely on a more complicated version of "rock-paper-scissors". Characters aren't necessarily strong (or OP) by themselves, but unless you're playing a game not worth playing, they are strong against a certain character (fast versus slow, ranged versus close range...attributes like that).

So in the end, rather than specializing, I goof off with most or all of the fighters. I often have no time to even come up with the idea that one is considered overpowered, as I've already played (and lost) with it.


Erm...I hope it doesn't come off as condescending (if so, I'm sorry), but perhaps you should try switching characters more often. I'm not sure what the mindset is among players, but I honestly don't believe that the creators attempted to put one (or more) characters in their games for the purpose of having people not using them.

Sounds like you're playing balanced, offline games. Some of the more popular online games tend to have very unbalanced characters. Though, I'm the same as far as goofing off. I'd prefer, for instance, to main as jigglypuff and annoy serious players instead of main as meta-knight and annoy serious players.

It can be hard to balance characters, especially the more characters you have, all while giving them unique controls/abilities/etc in some form or fashion. A lot of creators who update often will build in a little bit of unbalance, and then shift that balance on the next update, in order to push players to play more characters and to control the flow of unbalance (because it can be so hard to balance and keep it unique and fun)

the point is, we can't tell, until we try. Or something. I mean, pichu in ultimate? until I didn't try pichu, I didn't realize why it was good.
