PwnageTool is a Mac OS X application made by the iPhone Dev Team.
It allows you to create a custom IPSW (iPod/iPhone Software) file that you can use to upgrade your iPod/iPhone with. It removes baseband upgrades from the official software files and modifies the file system. Removing the baseband allows you to keep your phone unlocked, because newer basebands are not vulnerable to the same exploits used in old versions of unlocks.
