Yeah just ordered another one. For the future, do you recommend just using the kernel file to run the game? Without flashing the firmware?

A lot of people seem to be having issues with flashing the firmware lately, so maybe avoid this until I can figure out what's going on, or unless you have another way to unbrick it. The downside is, you can't use SDHC...

Hello Metroid,

I'd like to report that SDHC cards(128 GB - SanDisk brand) work on the super card SD with your custom firmware.
So far, it works like a charm. The issues mentioned previously might be related to the sdcard itself. Based on my experience, flashcarts behave differently depending on the brand of the sdcard. Either that or the file is corrupted.

Here's the hash checksum of 0.5.2's kernel.gba straight from your github:
  • MD5: 1351671B7C7FE79D2E030E1225130EA7
  • SHA256: 39D4B88A2483247C43C5D2BA3D5FA6C8E9CEB1BB934FFD17EC4E230B8EB3DE06
  • CRC32: 49628D0E

I don't think that's part of the scope of the homebrew project itself...

Typically, just copying the sdcard/TF files to another directory/storage medium is in itself a backup already since the firmware's kernel is designed to be plug-n-play.
  • As long as the directory "scfw" is found in the root directory of the card and the kernel.gba file is found inside it, the flashcart will always boot.
You can then just copy that onto another sdcard that's using a FAT32 filesystem.

This is what my sdcard looks like in Windows vs what's shown on my gamebox once inside the flashcart.

Notice that I removed the firmware file after flashing it on the cart. You only need to flash it once.

Moemon emerald works (most of the time) and saves, takes forever to load and apply patches, but works!
Loaded from kernet.gba, my card is not flashed and I haven't applied the SuperCard patch, just thrown the ROM.

It didn't work in the stock firmware? I had no problems with Pokémon games

This is an AWESOME project.

Question, if I flash this custom FW, will I lose out on the DS Slot-2 features of the Supercard SD stock FW?

Just let me know, thanks!

@soukron , I have published a new release which adds a soft reset patch. There is also a setting to only autosave when using soft reset, rather than on every boot. Please let me know how you get on with this.

What is the button combo for the soft reset? Just A+B + Start + Select like normal?

Will I have to have the firmware flashed for the auto save to work?

Yes, DS mode is currently not implemented, for now launch SCFW's kernel manually, rather than flashing the firmware, if you only have one cart.

How do you even play DS game on the stock firmware? I didn't find any way to run .NDS ROMs. They just won't appear
You need a PassMe method. Once you're in GBA mode, you're stuck in it, so you gotta run Slot-1 address space in NDS mode somehow, i.e. PassMe and clones, NoPass and clones, FlashMe, WiFiMe, 97% of Slot-1 flashcarts.

I think he was asking how you actually launch games from DS mode.

You have to patch them with Supercard's software and it'll spit out a ".nds.gba" file that'll run.

What's really cool about Pi's tho is you can have multiple SD cards with different OS on each SD card and change from say a gaming machine to a full fledged pc if wanted
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Plus all bios are set up and usually includes at least 128gbs or 64
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Yeah but if your main goal is just to play n64 and GameCube you can save about $50 and have the portability option

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
True, but on 2 monitors at 4k. Its just want you want really, to each they own.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
For a kids aspect Anbernic would be the better option they'd probably melt over the price on a good 4k display

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
For that texasroo guy, I'd recommend the Spell and speak as his first system.

  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
So they buy a pi5 kit for about $150 and say a 28" 4k display probably looking around $400 total
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
They'll be getting in the territory of portable Pcs anyway
    +1
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Again you get what you pay for, its like buying a S series for $300 but its only 1440p native, if you want true 4k, gotta get the X model for $500. But yea you right, when moms buying it anyways, you gotta stay cheap.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
They could use HD out on their TV no real need for a monitor these days tbh the purists will disagree
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
I'm kind of phasing out on the need for wanting all these consoles cool to have but they just become dust build ups
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I here ya there, I have too many myself, and have hard time letting them go, since most of mine I've modded at some point. Anymore I just play Switch on the go, seriesx at home.

    Tootles? Wtf
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
    Oh tootles
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Oh totes , lol, like Tupperware storage, I gotcha

I'm designing my own entertainment cabinet for my man cave, to store all my systems, then I'm also designing a power supply/HDMI switcher so I can switch to whichever system I want, and power it also. Already picked up the cabinet board, but tinkering with my drawings before start
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
But yea, I have frogger arcade cabinet that I gutted and put a Pi4 then Pi5 into, but it never gets played much anymore, should sell it. Even when the kids come over, they don't want to play on it, just the xbox. TMNT and Simpson's arcade is still so fun on it, esp w 2 players.
