DOOM has been ported to the retro game console in Persona 5 Royal

DOOM is well-known for being ported to basically every device with some kind of input, and that list now includes the old retro game console in Persona 5 Royal. Modders KingJackSkellington and Xan1242 released the DOOMsona mod today, that lets you buy the shareware version of the original DOOM at the second-hand store in Yongen-Jaya. DOOM is fully playable and, like the other games Joker can play in his room, will grant the player a social stat upgrade when they're finished (in this case, his guts will increase) and prompt commentary from Morgana before and after playing.

The mod includes the WAD file for the shareware version of Doom, as well as for FreeDOOM and Chex® Quest, a promotional video game released by General Mills in the '90s based on Ultimate Doom. Upon completing the shareware DOOM, which only comes with the first episode, the player can purchase a full copy of Ultimate DOOM from the same store; however, since this game is still being sold commercially, the WAD file isn't included with the mod and the player must provide their own.

DOOMsona also supports any PWAD that is compatible with Chocolate DOOM, a source port of the original DOOM that aims for historical accuracy and adherence to the experience of playing DOOM as it originally released.

That looks like a Famiclone with a PAL SNES cart. Oddly specific.

As you said: A port of DOOM in Persona 5.
You better not take me the wrong way. I know this is a game inside a game, but... WHY? What's the reason of porting it on there?

I would never imagine if they put any of the mainline Pokémon games in there. I hope this doesn't happen.

To see what's possible. Flipper Zero has a DOOM port. Is it any good? No. But impressive? Hell yeah.

The reason is not why, but can it run DOOM? (what if...)

Running DOOM on devices (or in this case: inside other games) that it was never on in the first place is a artform by now. This is exactly also the reason why a lot of people are hyped for Decomp projects.

And they nailed it. Of course there are much better platforms or ways to play DOOM. It's mostly a showcase for what is possible.

Hope that this answers your question.

Actually, I'm pretty much done listening to your babble. DOOM is a game that gets ported so many times and I won't deny that.

But this doesn't mean I enjoy it, not only because I'm bad at FPS games, but... ugh. I don't even wanna tell at this point.

If you don't want to listen, then don't ask stupid questions.

Ask stupid questions get stupid answers is what people say then. Nobody forbids you to dislike a game. That is why sites like metacritic exist.

I gave you answer, you are not happy with that. Fine, but just don't be a dick about it. :teach:

What is next? Doom in Animal Crossing? Or maybe in SSBB or what about Wario Ware or NES Remix? This is impressive on it's own already. Can't wait for the madlads to come up with something else.
Would love more old games in gcn animal crossing

If you're gonna be a dick, then so be it. Go do something else in your time.

Aside from that, I love how a lot of older games are getting ported to later generation consoles, it sheds more light into how capable they are.

That is exactly what i was thinking about when i read this, hench why i quoted it.
That's what I thought as well. Animal Crossing did have some extra goodies like a built-in NES emulator, so perhaps maybe porting Doom to AC would be revolutionary.

Spoke to Tom Fulp the other day, if he can find his old Newgrounds site content like the mini Flash animations from the 2000's that played on the portal.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
So far no response, but he did say that he'll find them. Wayback Machine doesn't have em.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@SylverReZ, atleast the 1999 versión of pico's school is avaliable (the difference between it, the 2006 versión and the 2016 versión is that the speed of the game depends of the speed of your computer and that it had the og soundtrack)
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, Another being Pico VS Bear, the original 1999 version before Jim Henson filed a DMCA takedown.

  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
The 2006 versión was made when the flash portal was made
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Many people thought it was lost, but was discovered that he hid it on the same page.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@SylverReZ, although the "secrets" system where the game was has been removed. Also pico vs uberkids had a netplay versión that was shutdown, although the swf file has been found
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, Nope. There are two download buttons on the same page, where you can download the original under a file called "bear.exe". "bear2.exe", however, is the updated game in a Flash projector. P.s. this was on the archived Pico page from 2000.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:

@SylverReZ, also the pico 2 demos used to be only for the newgrounds patrons but they are on internet archive too (https://archive.org/download/picos_school_2)

Iirc the demos were removed from newgrounds in 2022

Fun fact @SylverReZ: iirc one of the goals on the fnf Kickstarter stated that pico 2 would be finished but the Kickstarter didnt get enough money for that goal to be fullfiled

@Xdqwerty, FNF sucks, their community is toxic as hell.

@The Real Jdbye, and quite a lot of people involved in those mods get cancelled

Newgrounds wasn't the birth of FNF; rather, it was games where you beat up celebrities and parodies.
