So, I got the 3DS today, but I can't use the 3D.
No, I can see it perfectly, I didn't get any headaches, I'm older than 7, I wear prescription glasses though, but it was fine.
But I can't use the 3D.
So, I got my 3DS from Toys R' Us today, and yeah, everything went fine. I played with it in the car, it was ok, I wasn't that impressed with the 3D effect though, the effect looked restrained, I was expecting something like those Star Wars holograms, instead, I was greeted with movie like 3D effects, which were fun the first time, any then... blehh.... So, the 3D lost it's gimmick like 2 minutes from when I booted up.
But when I got home, my dad wanted to look at the 3D effect, and when he did he was like "You can't use this anymore" He said it was hurtful to my eyes, and I had to persuade him to let me use it with the 3D effect off. So he set parental controls. This isn't the worse part, IMO.
He wouldn't let me buy any more games... So now I have to find a way to get OOT... Right now, I'm stuck with Pilotwings, which is a great game in it's own right, is kinda short. So now that he wouldn't buy anymore games for me, he didn't care whether I pirated them. So great, I have to wait for an exploit and someone to make a backup launcher. Well, atleast 3DS exploits will most likely be software exploits, unlike flastcarts. So if by any off chance that you're reading this AND you're part of some hacking groups, then.. look into Pilotwings when you're trying to find something. Maybe corrupted Miis? Too bad, I was planning to go legit..
Now for my impressions.
Build
The 3DS build was solid, but it was a bit too shiny for me. The stylus was way too short, even when extended and was in an inconvenient space
The charging cradle was neat.
3D effect
As I said, it seemed restricted and not what I expected, I mean that in a bad way. I didn't feel any discomfort but I got a little carsick when I was playing, cause I was in a car. I do wear prescription glasses and I saw the 3D just fine. When on full, it was a but overkill, I only got to use the 3D effect for about 15 -20 minutes. For some reason, I preferred playing with 3D off, but that's just me.
Games
So, I got the OK Go video, and I personally would've preferred the Mario Orchestra video the japanese got.
Pilotwings resort was great, the controls were a bit... precise, almost too precise. The Plane was my favourite thing to fly. The 3D effect here was too sharp, and it didn't feel "3D". It felt like 2D with some depth, like Red/Cyan glasses except in full colour.
AR games I didn't get to play in 3D, but I was impressed anyways. It was just pure awesome, Archery, and AR shot was nearly genius.
Face Raiders was ok, it seemed to me like it was the same game repeated over and over to create the illusion of a long game. the 3D effect worked pretty well on this one, but again, too sharp.
I got to take a few 3D pics, and the 3D effect was the same as described in Pilotwings. It looked like layered 2D images and didn't fully pop out.
And the DSTwo does work, but seems a bit blurry. In native resolution, it was way way way too small. Why is it so small????
Overall, it's a great system, and it has great potential, but I feel like Nintendo marketed it wrong. Most people I know would think it's just a regular DS that has 3D capabilities, in the same way the DSiXL can view DS Games larger. Seriously, everyone in my class just thinks it's another DS. The name probably caused this.
BTW, watching the Juno Awards on CTV right now, lol, Deadmau5 was wearing a giant black mouse head.
Edit: OMGWHATTHEFUCK HOW DID FUCKING BEIBER WIN A FUCKING AWARD?
