About my username.

TL;DR - I'm sorry if my presence became a worn out laughter. It was a joke taken too far.

If you're someone who visits the 3DS side of GBAtemp, you may seen me before.

Several people have commented about my name, and a @MrLucariox asked for its backstory and so here it is:

***

Prior to signing up around the start of this year, I was a lurker in the 3DS discussion forum. I had no interest engaging with the community because I was (and still am) an inactive video gamer.

I started visiting this place due to my bored niece playing tablet games. She said something that made me go out and buy her a n3DSXL; that n3DSXL is now mine, and she's since gotten a n3DS.

You can read the backstory of that in my thread here:
It just so happens this was around the time installing (boot9strap) 3DS custom firmware with a compatible NTRboot flashcart became a thing. I was researching all I could about 3DS CFW stuff in order to pack my niece's n3DS with as many games as possible. Arrr. After that, I had no plans myself to do anything with the leftover n3DSXL except sell it.

During my sessions converting *.3ds games into installable *.cia format that would later go on to become part of my niece's 3DS library, I updated to GodMode9 v1.5.0 and encountered a bug... After losing several hours and finally figuring out where it went wrong, I was miffed enough to sign up and directly report the problem to the dev behind the app, @d0k3. Read here (my first post).

When I was thinking of a username, I wanted it to be catchy, funny, and wrong. In the event d0k3 credited whoever were the ones that found the bug, my aim was to make 3DS homebrewers do a double take feeling slightly grossed out yet chuckle all the same. In a way, my origins stems from trolling and malicious compliance, intended to be silly and harmless. :'-}

How the name came to be? Other than 3DS homebrew, one of my other hobbies was car modding with a keen interest in forced induction systems, especially turbochargers. Nowadays, I don't mess with anything auto related except for family car maintenance and repairs.

Other tidbits

  • I stuck around because I enjoyed learning the various technical aspects of the 3DS.
  • I also liked examining some of the weird quirks 3DS users presented to us on the boards.
  • Despite the name, I do not have a real life poop fetish. Yuck. :gun::shit:
    • If this blog turns into Q&A, we're not going there.
  • When being referred shorthanded, I preferred Mr. Poo.

Comments

Not what I imagined, though I didn't imagine anything. Pretty clever actually, serves its purpose.

Mine, in contrast, is just a mix of my surname and the word "fates". So deep.

We know you have a weird shitty fetish Mr. Poo don't lie to us /s

@TimeMaster, and you're also awesome! At first I was going to ask what Pokemon your avatar is, but instead a reverse image search revel it was a Temtem. Interesting.

@98otiss, I never thought a hello could be made more simple than hi. Impressive.

@ry755, unlike what that awful Joe Stalin guy once said, "simplistic(ity)* has a quality of its own". Btw, how's your progress going for cuzebox3ds?

@NFates, you caught me. x_x Sorry, I can't help myself lol.
I thought the N stood for Ness from Mother / Earthbound with Fates having something to do with how the 1st game ended. Are you a fan of the series? I never played it but heard it's a life changing experience.

@NoNAND, nonsense (pun not intended). You've transcended all other forms of NANDs: Emu, Sys, Rei, CTR, etc.
BTW, did you know you have evil doppelganger, @Der_Blockbuster ?

You know what's funny? I actually thought you went with the name to troll people and I thought you were a dupe for the longest time. So I kept an eye on your posts just to find something that would point to what account you belonged to. I was actually rather shocked to find you had so much to offer for the 3DS scene, despite such a shitty username. Personally I get a good chuckle when I see your username in the credits of projects.

Nope, the N stands for New (translated).

I like the Mother saga quite a lot. Not like I have played lots of games throughout my life, but Mother 2 and 3 are both on my top five. Playing the first game is on my to-do list for the near future, too.

@Lilith Valentine, happy to know you found my presence a little humorous.

In some ways, you're actually not far off the mark on your assessment: as long as people can still laugh about poop of all things, I consider this take of what trolling is, a success. :D

Were you around the heyday of PSP hacking? I think I vaguely remember seeing you in another gaming forum. They say people will long forget what was said in an argument before letting go how they felt about it.

If memories serves me right, (as a bystander in real time when these events occurred) I witnessed you brawl in some seriously awful online arguments, that I felt bad how some of those turned out for you... But hey! here you are, still scrapin' along. :)

@NFate, do you ever feel like you’re avoiding the last Mother game, not because the hardest part is that the game is hard, but that the hardest part is to start playing it? You know you’re going to beat that game one day, but you’re not quite ready yet to pick up the controller and see it through.

***

@ry755, I never heard of what the uzebox was until your release thread. I’m intrigued about your project, even if some may find it lofty or (wrongly) believe the emulator to be simple. Is this your first foray in homebrewing? If it is: take breaks, keep your chin up, and do it for you.

I actually wasn't very active in the PSP scene back then and I wasn't going by Lilith Valentine, so if there was another Lilith back then, then chances are high that my debating style was influenced by them. A Gay Little Catboy (the character and username I used back in the DS/PSP day) was a far more pronounced character in the DS scene over the PSP scene. Whenever I was involved in the PSP scene it was often to debate some ethical issues, like when Sony tried to add online activation so PSP games. Basically issues that were larger than the scene itself. Although I won't be shocked if you following me because I've often been on a lot of opposing sides in most debates. For example even in the early 3DS scene, I was still heavily against Gateway 3DS, despite public opinion being against me (fuck Gateway and Stargate, for anyone interested.) As well I was heavily against (and still against) the scene shifting focus to one CFW and dunking on the rest without consideration for others. And even today I am still heavily against SX team. I have a very long and vocal history of being on the opposing side.

Whenever the day that I beat Mother comes (most likely soon because I love RPGs) I'm going to blast this and try not to cry.

Nice backstory. I thought it was just a random username based on something that you liked (similar to mine)

My user's backstory is so boring though. It's just a character of a game i like mispelled (Viola)

@Vieela, lol. I thought your username had something to do with Scandinavian. Well, that makes the two of us with bastardized names. Which game btw?

@TurdPooCharger Yep, it's my first time messing with 3DS homebrew development. Fortunately, the cuzebox source code is really organized so it's pretty easy to understand. If you're interested, this PDF gives detailed explanations of how the Uzebox's hardware and software works: http://uzebox.org/files/wiki/uzebox_how_it_works_v10.pdf. It's a bit outdated, but it still applies to the current Uzebox kernel.
