Anime series everyone should watch at least once!

Similarly to my last blog, I'll be giving some recommendations, but this time anime ones. I won't list OVA/OAV/movie-exclusive anime though, as those are for another blog (I have a LOT of them)! This time, I'm focusing more on lesser known (or almost completely unknown) anime series that are a good or great watch, but will list some more recent ones that went completely under the radar.

Aoi Sekai no Chuushin De
Starting with a pretty average one, but for people on this forum it can prove to be a fun watch. Imagine a medieval world with two kingdoms based on Nintendo and Sega fighting for supremacy, with characters being based on characters from the respective company's games and having superpowers, with the added bonus of seeing hotties getting their clothes blasted away every so often!:P

.hack//Roots , .hack//SIGN , .hack//Versus - The Thanatos Report , .hack//Liminality , .hack//Gift , .hack//G.U. Returner , .hack//Legend of the Twilight , .hack//Quantum
Yeah yeah, I know, expected considering it was in my last blog (hell, if I make a game suggestion blog you can expect these to be in there:rofl2:), but as a huge fan of the series that started almost as many cliches as Akira, it's a must watch for everyone who's interested in game-based anime or anime that blend computers with the real world! If you aren't feeling like watching them all, give SIGN, Liminality and Roots a try in that order. Expect some of the most amazing music you will ever get to hear in an anime when watching these too, so fitting ("GOD Diva" for example is EPIC)!

Grenadier
Sexy busty blonde chick kicks ass with a revolver in a medieval-Japan-like world AND has kinda interesting characters and plot, so what else could you ask for?

Bokurano
Fight to save the Earth from getting cleansed with different Earths getting pitted against one another and being represented by a giant mecha, with home and away fights. While the main premise isn't that interesting, DEFINITELY give this a watch, as it has some of the best character development out of all anime out there, despite having a huge variety of characters with deep backgrounds! This anime mainly revolves around a certain group of early-teen kids, with greatly varying backstories and can get pretty damn dark at times!

K (aka K Project)
Plenty people know of this, but most of the new generation of weebs doesn't know it, so give it a watch. It's edginess overload, with interesting characters and a sort of comical hook which keeps you along until the very end. I'm referring to the original series though, not the second one (which is decent at best).

Mnemosyne: Mnemosyne no Musume-tachi (aka RIN: Daughters of Mnemosyne)
First off, heads up, this is an R-rated show as it contains a pretty damn nice amount of nudity, but also it can get VERY gruesome! This anime takes place around 1990 (but can vary a LOT throughout), in a real world-like place, but one where angels exist among the population. Angels are created from regular people seemingly randomly, with female ones gaining immortality (lucky them... except for all the torture in this show, lol:rofl2:), while males one gain immense strength and other abilities but can only live for a single week. The show follows the stories of two females and can get really interesting!

Rinne no Lagrange
A classic story that takes elements from mecha shows like Evangelion, about a schoolgirl ending up piloting a mecha and protecting her city against enormous aliens, so really cliche, but this one is good! And while this isn't a comedy or anything, whatever humor it has in it is actually funny compared to the cringey humor other shows like it have. On top of everything, it has some beautiful visuals if you are into that kind of anime watching, with a touch of fanservice...

Rozen Maiden (Seasons 1-3 and Zurückspulen)
A show about dolls that have been imbued with life by their creator for the purpose of finding a master to draw power from and fight until only one remains, who will turn into a girl that goes by the name of "Alice", a supposedly perfect girl that their creator has been longing for. A really fun show to watch, an interesting plot, beautiful visuals despite being outdated, AMAZING soundtracks (all 3 openings and especially "Kamp" among others) and the two most important dolls being gorgeous, especially the "evil ones" (with Suigintou being by far one of my favorite characters of all time)!

Togainu no Chi
Here we have an anime with everything it needed to be epic, but falling really short because of bad production. However, it's still a great watch, despite the bad character development and even worse animation! It's about a guy getting framed for something and as means out, he gets sent to a secluded city of undesirables, where people murder one another without a second thought and tries to find a way out of it all. If you decide to watch this series, watch it through to the end, even if it starts losing you, as the towards the climax you will see that awesome powers can make even a badly animated series look incredible!:P

Welp, I'm tired, so I'll leave it at this for now... I mainly got tired trying to decide what series to recommend as I have HUNDREDS of them I want to, but I'm too lazy to write descriptions of...;-; I'll probably make a part 2 sometime soon, but don't count on it, may instead do the OVA/OAV/movie one first! Anyway, let me know what you think about these recommendation blogs of mine down in the comments and also whether you have watched these or what you thought of them after you watched them due to this blog!

Yeah I'm sure I'm generalizing. I just picture that group of unshowered fadora-wearing, socially cringy role-play-"flirting" neckbeards playing magic the gathering in their own little smelly circle of the college I went to. (They even got angry and confrontational when I told them to shower as it's smelling up the room)

Like, it was uncanny how accurate the depiction was to the memes. long unwashed hair, saying "m'lady", calling a woman a bitch if she says she's not interested.

It's so cringeworthy and I suppose I've grown accustomed to seeing those people and associating them with anime, as that was like all they'd discuss. God they were so cringy.

I saw one walk up to a girl and say something along the lines of (nervously), "M'lady." and tipped their fadora, spreading and spilling all the dead hair and head cells all from the hat, and she just stared at him with disgust. And then she said, "yeah?' and he said, "fine, bitch! You're just a whore who doesn't deserve a nice guy like me" and walked away.

GOD it was awful.

Where are you? Move from that place immediately. I've never seen a neckbeard in my entire life. I've only ever seen 1 fedora, ever, and it wasn't worn by anybody. I put it on as a joke during a Saint Patrick's Day parade.

I think I've only met like 6 people in my entire life who liked anime, and all of them kept it a secret from everyone.

Sure I've seen groups similar to what he describes, but it was 20 years ago when I was in high school, and the local version didn't use fedoras. Everything else was quite similar to @Thirty3Three's description.

Though, I can say that I've met hundreds of people in my life who liked anime, and just around 6 of them also played magic the gathering and somewhat lined up with that description.

PS: And sure not everybody playing magic is like that, but the ones I met were quite remarkable.

I have a pretty large beard, but I'm not fat or anything (unlike those called "neckbeards" often are), I love anime and Japanese culture and DESPISE Magic the Gathering (besides the "MtG:Battlegrounds" video game which is nothing like the actual thing) and same goes for "role-playing" in general (in fact, I cringe very badly in reality regarding any form of it). Do I fit the groups you are describing?:P Anyway, stay on topic or move to new place to chat as this it quite irrelevant and I don't want to have to start regulating the posts in my blogs (report for off-topic, even if you may be trying to troll a bit). I like my blogs, threads and profile to be clean, so I will only tolerate a bit of sidetracking.

@XDel Seriously? We can't recommend gruesome things without a warning about it first you know as there are kids on here and a hour and a half of people getting disintegrated in slow motion by the atomic bomb isn't exactly that much kid friendly... Also, was saving it for the blog about anime movie suggestions:P

I know you've been raised to believe otherwise, but it's really not good to shelter children from reality, death, and so forth.
On that note, I am of the post Old Yeller generation, but I did begin on horror at the age of 5 in 1980 and grew up to spend a number of years working with the elderly, physically impaired, as well the mentally/emotionally disturbed.

Reality at an early age helps us cope with reality and be more developed, diverse, and well rounded human being.

@XDel What made you think of such a thing? You know I've been raised to think otherwise? What's that supposed to mean? If anything, I WANT kids to learn about how shitty and gruesome the world really is, but there is something called "duty of disclosure". For things that are gruesome, contain nudity, etc. it's best to note on it when suggesting them. There are some people who can't handle said stuff very well. Besides that though, I never said people shouldn't watch it, I only said that you should include a heads up about the content.

I started watching/observing gruesome things (not "horror" crap) both on media and irl at as early as 6 and turned out fine. I'm talking about slaughter of animals, old war clips with even human decapitations and many others things, quite often from Japan's deep web though:P I strongly believe that sheltering kids is ruining them, especially when you got these 15+ year olds that can't stand seeing a drop of blood nowadays without throwing up! Knowing how shitty and bad the world really is can help a LOT in life, as you can stop caring about those things that are actually normal and focus on more important ones.

I see your point.
Was there nudity in this film? It has been a long while. If so, then I'm sure it was not of a pornographic nature and devoid of testicles and what have you, and I guess from where I stand, no different then what I see in the mirror every day...
...a naked mammal that is forced to put on a monkey suit before going out doors. Covering our selves outside of the realm of protection from the elements is just strange to me.

@XDel Can't remember either, been like a decade since I last watched it, but I do remember a scene where a woman with her baby are stripped of their clothes split-seconds before the blast disintegrates them...

@TinyRick Besides Mai-Hime, those are classics or famous, so not much point recommending them as "hidden gems", also, pickle Rick ftw:P

Level E,
A megatroll alien prince decides to use humanity as his plaything just for the laughs.

Infinite Ryvius,
Crazy kids on a spaceship without a clear social hierarchical structure struggling to survive.

Giant Killing,
An old "traitor" soccer super star coming back to his team as a coach.

To be continued...

Haven't watched Level E, but have read the manga and it was really "wtf did I just read?", lol, gonna watch the anime too, thanks for reminding me there was one:P

Have heard of Infinite Ryvius and that's it's interesting, so I guess now I'll this one out too!

Giant Killing sounded good so I watched it, but it was crap tbh and boring...

Never watched Air Gear dubbed to be honest, it was cringey already from episode one, didn't want to torture myself

I ended up being really busy the past week and this weekend, so in order to keep my word, the three I completed were the Mardock Scramble trilogy.
I enjoyed it overall, but I wish there wasn't so much pointless nudity. I already hate fan-service and ecchi shows, so seeing a 15 year old girl's boobs a million time was really off-putting.

I know, the nudity kinda went overboard in that one:rofl2: The themes in general and action scenes are awesome though!

Angel Beats is crap, it's just many cliches put together even worse than Black Clover, lol! Kore Wa Zombie Desu Ka is hilarious though so I agree with that one, chainsaw loli and cross-dressing zombies ftw:P

Angel Beats has a lovely last few episodes. I don't remember much of it standing out outside of that, however. It's been a while since I've seen it, though. Also, as of having just finished Made in Abyss, I'd definitely recommend watching that one.
